I could do without the production shows. The water slides, rock climbing walls and other pool entertainment don't really interest me but I know they would interest families. My wife also likes doing the rock climbing walls.

The amount of space now given to retail is ridiculous and somewhat irritating to me. On Epic there was a vast amount of deck 7 given to shopping while a lot of deck six was packed too tight with entertainment venues. I like to have varied entertainment but the "Sea Legs Goes Hollywood" shows are not my cup of tea.

Give me a ship with: A couple of good alternative restaurants, a nice pool area with "limited" entertainment, a casino, lounge acts, singers and comedians and an active disco and I'm a happy camper.

Take care,
Mike

I'd say the ice skating rink. I'm going on a cruise to get away from cold weather!

There are a lot of "amenitites" I could do without; however, the one that is most superfluous is the shipboard photographer. I am glad Regent got rid of the photographers a couple of years ago.

I certainly could do without the Rock Wall, the FlowRider, the Miniature Golf Course, the Spa, and the Sushi Bar. I couldn't do without the BIG shows, most of the other entertainment, the traditional dining room with set dinner times, or the free ice cream/frozen yogurt.

Talking Song of Norway

HMMM ...

Reading all those answers ...

Our very first cruise was on the Song of Norway, RCCL's first ship, way back in the early 70's. We loved it!

No rock climbing, no alternative dining, no pool slides, no buffet, no pizza, one small shop ...

It sounds as if pretty much everybody on this board would still be happy on her! They did have a ship's photographer and a casino, though.

I agree with the Rock Wall, Flowrider, Golf Course. Also who needs bocci ball and in-line skating? But no sushi?? OMG-it's one of the reasons we like Celebrity so much:-D

I could easily do without the rock climbing walls, the miniature golf, the spa,
the ear splitting " entertainment " around the pools, the specialty restaurants, in-line skating and sushi bar, etc.
I love the big production shows, love the ice shows on RCCL ( I'm not in the ice rink long enough to get cold--the show isn't that long ) and am satusfied enough with the main dining room and buffet--if that doesn't work, then there's pizza and room service.
I believe in cruising to rest and relax, get away from the hustle and bustle, the malls and throngs that go with the malls, etc. All that I can find at home everyday without trying.
I can't find a nice quite seat on the deck of a ship where I can watch the world and water slide by at home! :-D

The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) would agree with you 100%. She is, however, upset at the hours of the sushi bar, as we always have early seating, and the sushi bar aboard Carnival ships usually doesn't open until just before our dinner. I personally, like my sushi "well done".

Yes, Mrs. Jones, the sushi bar hours are also inconvenient on Celebrity! 6 p.m to 10 p.m. I believe. Not good when you have first seating as we do. So we peruse the dinner menu as soon as it is posted and if there is nothing that we ABSOLUTELY cannot live without,we do the sushi thing followed by the alternative dining.

It's a little known fact that my grandfather invented sushi. A little old Jewish man who wanted to open a fish restaurant but couldn't afford an oven.

WOW, how could I forget BINGO? I HATE BINGO! I also agree with the Art Auctions. I once "won" a print at the art auction, but they wouldn't give it to me. I had to pay to have it shipped, and IMO I paid more for the shipping than the damn thing was worth! It's still rolled up in the cardboard tube they shipped it in. NO MORE ART AUCTIONS!

When it comes to Bingo, I can take it or leave it. When I first started cruising, I faithfully went to every session-building up the pot I MIGHT win at the " Grand Finally".
Well, I finally realized that the people who won the Big Pot were always folks who had never played until the last day! BTW,one of our first cruises was in 1997 and the final payout was $7,800. The last time I cruised (2009) it was $2500. And it now cost twice as much to play. Nice profit for the cruiseline......

I can do without discos, rock climbing walls, flowriders, water slides, kids clubs, inline skating, ice skating, sushi bars, buffets, 24 hour pizza and ice cream and art auctions. I love the movies under the stars, steakhouses and wish they served lunch in the MDR even on port days.
