Default Orlando vrs. Melbourne?????

We are cruising from Port Canaveral in Nov. 2011 and was wondering which airport is best to use?? Also is it easier to get a shuttle, limo or taxi to take us to the port? We are going day before and will be staying in a hotel but not sure if we will stay close to airport or close to pier..any suggestions?? Thanks for your help!!

Depends when you are getting in day before and what you want to do?

If you want to see Disney or one of the other parks in Orlando the day before, definitely fly into Orlando. If you just want to chill on the beach, I would go for the cheaper flight; both are very easy drives. As there are no drop off charges for one way rental cars in Florida, I would just rent a car and then drop off at port (others can tell you step be step directions on how to do this).

Now, on the other end, remember that there is a higher volume of flights at Orlando so if something goes wrong, you have a better chance of getting on another flight.

Melbourne is a little closer to the Port but not by much. It is a straight shot from the Orlando airport to Port Canaveral and there are probably more transportation options from Orlando though there are some companies operating out of Melbourne.

If you are not planing to do the Orlando area parks I would recommend heading towards the Cocoa Beach / Cape Canaveral area for your pre-cruise night. That will make your morning a little easier before embarkation
