I really am not much of a bar person....not a fan of dark smokey places, so my frame of reference is limited, but, I have to say, the aft, Sunset Bar on the Eclipse was idyllic...A bright sunny spot, where you can imbibe, and dine, and watch the wake....oh waiter!!

Seriously, fewer people drink now than they did in the hey day of ocean liners. They also smoke less. Maybe thats why we are living 20 years longer?
I am not the type to sit in a bar and just drink, but I usually enjoy have drinks with meals - so for me it would be Tapas bars, etc.
The new Winery types of bars on Royal Caribbean and MSC where you can also order great European hors d' oeuvres with your wine are my favorite types of places.

I'm a fan of the Bolero's bars on Royal Caribbean since I like the music and atmosphere at night. But perhaps my #1 favorite is the Schooner Bar they have on all their ships. It is peaceful in the afternoon as people return from the port and stop by for something to drink. I'll sit there and have a couple rum & Cokes and just observe people and chill out. Sets a nice tone for the evening.
The Martini Ice Bar on Century. I greatly enjoyed the people and the atmosphere in this bar. They also made a really good martini.
O'Sheehan's on Epic: It is a great place to play darts, a game of pool, bowl a game or just eat or drink and people watch.
International Lounge on SS Norway: This is what a bar of the great ocean liners was and I just enjoyed sitting in there and thinking of all the things that happened in there over the years.
Fat Cats Jazz Bar on Epic: Great music and a fun place.
The majority of the bars on cruise ships are not easy to remember, and not because of what they serve, they are just "another place to get a drink".
Take care,
Mike

I second O'Sheehans on Epic. The English ale and the (included in the cruise) pub food like fish & chips were excellent. I found myself going there at least once/day on my cruise.

I'd forgotten about that. It really was something special. Definitely a place where I felt comfortable sitting around in a tux sipping my martini and feeling elegant.
We also loved Sheehans Pub, those chicken fingers were killer!! While I was away form the table for a few minutes,it seemed one of our group had issues with a server there...we ended up having someone else be our server...from what I was told happened, Kevin would not be happy with her attitude.
We were there several times on our cruise...really enjoyed it.

Prior to my last cruise I never went to a lounge on board a ship .However ,the people we traveled with were into that .One night we went to a jazz bar on our HAL ship .They asked for song requests from the people sitting there . First I asked for something by Julee Cruise .They had no idea who she is .Then I suggested The Girl From Ipanema by Astrid Gilberto ,again a blank stare .
What did surprise me is that they did their own rendition of Stairway To Heaven .The first time I ever heard it in a jazzy vein and I was pleasantly surprised.
I have always loved the Churchill lounges on the Carnival ships for a drink and cigar during a cruise. Also like the sports bars and Piano bars on Carnival.
SkyWalkers disco on the Caribbean Princess was really cool being so high above the water.
