Default Kids' passport question

We are cruising the Carnival Dream in June 2011. We got passports for the kids when we took our first cruise in June 2007. They expire in Dec. 2011. They will still be good for 6 months (officially), but I've heard that they need to be renewed before 6 months. Am I ok or do I need to go ahead and renew them now? If I do that can I do it through the mail like I did for me and my husband? How long should I expect it to take?

TIA!

Passports issued before the holder is the age of 16 cannot be renewed by mail.

Thanks, I didn't think they could be renewed by mail, but I wasn't sure. So, should I get them renewed or are they ok since it's 6 months before they expire?

If you are doing a Caribbean itinerary then go ahead and take the cruise and renew them after you return.

If you are going on a European or other itinerary then get them renewed in a couple of months.

Take care,
Mike

Thanks, Mike. We are going to the Caribbean; Belize, Roatan, Cozumel, and Costa Maya.

You ask an interesting question, and one I am still up in the air on myself.

My kids passports expire in June 2011 (we are Canadian).

We are sailing on Eurodam in March. I did the on-line check-in keying in the expiry dates on the passports, and it was accepted.

I was toying with getting new passports before we go, but now I am wondering if it is necessary. Is it safe to assume that if there was not enough dating on the passport, that the on-line check in would not have accepted the expiration date?

If you do renew them now; they are only good until they turn 18; then they have to get a new one.
