Default When you go on a cruise, do you feel special?

When you walk onboard, and for the duration of the cruise do you feel special? Do the cruise lines do a great job of making you feel special? Or do you just feel like the "next customer"?

From the moment my tootsies walk up the walkway..I feel butterflies..I have yet to sail, on any ship, that did not treat us wonderfully, and I thank them all for making us feel special.

I agree with Trip. From the first moment to the last, I feel special - it's a wonderful exciting feel, which makes cruising IMO the best way to vacation.

The best vacation experience I have had for making me feel 'special' was a safari.

Of the mainstream cruise lines, I have only sailed HAL - and IMHO - you are just a number. I observed the crew were very tired and a major crew change was scheduled.

In reality....Carnival and Princess make me feel like just another passenger. I have yet to sail on a ship where they made me feel special. I guess that is why I am so interested in trying Luxury cruising...to see if they can make me feel special.

happy sailings

Only once did we not feel special and that was our NCL cruise. Even when we have done anytime dining we have felt special.

I'm inclined to feel like you. I'm looking forward to trying HAL. Hopefully it is a step up.

I think there are just soooo many people, you can't help but feel like a number. Especially when leaving the ship, I feel like cattle being herded.

we have always felt special when cruising, but i must say that it was a bit less on the mega ships, did we feel like a number absoutley not, but its those little extra special touches that i missed, like your head waiter knowing your name, your food and drink preferences by the second night, that one bartender who just "gets" what you might want to try, things like that

On my most recent cruise all of the waiters and busboys knew our names .They also knew what foods we like and do not like . We were a table of 6 .

I feel compelled to add to my answer.

It's not that I don't enjoy cruising. If I didn't .... I would not be here.

I do believe there is a disconnect between the cruise line valuing my business and the staff valuing my business.

I can say for the most part, that I have never been treated poorly on a cruise ship [well, there was this one time when a young hispanic male was VERY rude to me. He tried speaking to me in Spanish (I'm NOT hispanic) ... and when I responded to him in English that I don't speak Spanish ... he muttered something (which I presume was rude) and then walked away. I was appalled by his tone].

Waiters have, for the most part, always been nice, learned our preferences etc. The dining aspect has mostly been good. But other than that ... I don't know. I can't put my finger on it ...

I certainly walk away from a cruise feeling like a I had a great time, but I don't walk away feeling special. Maybe it's because I don't need a cruise to make me feel special. I don't know.

Talking "Playing rich"

Rich people always get special attention!

And we have long taken the attitude that when we are on a cruise we like to "play rich"! I expect to be treated as if I am special and I always get it!

The only time that I feel like a common person aboard a cruise ship is when I try to deal with the Customer Non-Service desk. Universally the Junior Pursers are incompetent, unempowered, and uncaring about it. I can almost never get anyplace until I get through the wall to their superiors.

Other than that, the staff aboard treats us like royalty! We have cruised on many different lines over many years and it is always the same. As soon as we set foot aboard we are special!

Okay Mike, tell us your secrets .... how do you play rich?

As much as I love to gamble and would prefer a cruise to a week in Vegas ... I think the cruise casinos could do a lot more to make me feel special.

On Grandeur last fall, DH and I were practically camped out in the casino... we had a good table that "worked", and we'd often play together. On the last night one of the guys asked the pit boss to comp our tables some drinks, which he gladly did. We should have asked for something sooner. We shouldn't have to ask.
