Default Favorite Bars or Watering Holes in port

What are your three/five favorite Bars or Watering Holes in a cruise port?

Mine are:
1. The Lazy Lizard, Caye Caulker, Belize
2. El Faro, Mahahual, Mexico (pre-Hurricane Dean)
3. Sloppy Joe's and/or Kelly's Caribbean Bar, both Key West, Fla.
4. Hussongs Cantina, Ensenada, Mexico
5. Playa Bonita, Cozumel, Mexico

It's a bit of an effort to get there too. I've been lucky enough to try the Lizard Punch three different times.

Usually, my favorite watering hole while in port is still the ship; can't beat the prices. Still, I do have some favorite memories of drinks on shore.

Harry's Bar in Venice to get the original Bellini.

Caribe Hilton in San Juan to get the original Pina Colada.

The little outdoor restaurant (don't remember name) in Mykonos to get a bottle of Retsina to enjoy with Souvlaki.

Great thread, Ray!

Pez Quadro in Mahahual (the one with the swings for bar stools, at the end of town)
Wet Lizard in Belize
Pizza Benji's in Mazatlan!

I'm sure I'll think of more.....

Look's like the Caribe Hilton has Barrachina beat by nine years.

Well I've had both! I've seen documentation on Barrachina too--and they both claim the same guy--so who knows. I don't think I've ever broken my record for a bar tab since I stayed at the Caribe Hilton. Great bar and location, attracted hotties from the beach, pool and hotel lobby. But that was 30 years ago and I was young and foolish. Now I'm old and hopefully a little less foolish.

I'm kind of partial to the little bar located at at Blackbeard's Castle in St Thomas. Its where you go to enter the Amber Museum. You pay your cover to the bartender and he lets you in. Tour ends right back at at the bar, so we stayed for a bit. Michael is the main bartender. He's first generation USVI, lived there his whole life. Lots of great conversation and very knowledgeable about the islands. And he makes a drink that will knock you on your @$$ if you're not careful. Its 1 drink made with 12, yes 12 alcohols, and no mixer. He said they tested it once and it came to around 125 alc/vol or there abouts. But it was *good* :-D

Overview of 12:

Close up 2:

Close up 3:

For the record, that is Cruzan 151, and that was practically half the drink as a base.

HawkeyeFla: what did he charge for that concoction? We'll be there March 2nd. but I have my eye on Duffy's Love Shack as the bar of choice that day.

If memory serves, and well its kind of hazy for that day :-p It was $12. I was looking at my CC history real quick, and I spent $17 in that bar. I think my friend paid for our first 2 drinks, and I paid the tip for the whole visit. Regardless, it took awhile to finish it. It was really worth the investment. I think I was still sipping on it when we got back down to the shopping district and wandered into AH Rise.

I never would have believed it but we loved the ''Jimmy Buffets Margaritavilles'' we went to especially Grand Turk. My wife liked "Sloppy Joe's'' in Key West....I of course was ill...

I was unimpressed with Margaritaville in Grand Turk. But that's just me I suppose. Sloppy Joes is good. Great conch fritters, and they pour a decent strong drink. But I was more partial to Captain Tony's. But I'm a Parrot Head, so that's expected. In Key West I also enjoyed the Garden Bar at the Bourbon Street Pub, but that's for the FODs that visit Key West. :-p

Jeez, forgot about Sloppy Joe's. Also Kelly's Caribbean Bar. I've tried most in Key West, those are my favorite two. I have to decide on which one to add to list.

Talking Watering hole

Well, one of the least likely things for me to do in port is to go to the beach.

The second least likely would be to spend any time in a bar. Occasionally a tour includes lunch and it might be in a pub or restaurant with a bar, but otherwise that is not part of the scenic highlights to me.

And as far as seeing me in a bar at the beach ...

Now, one exception was the Copenhagen Ice Bar! That was indeed an experience!

The best beach bars are arguably found in the BVI's and are on the road less traveled.
In no particular order:

Soggy Dollar - Jost Van Dyke
Bomba'a Shack - Tortola
Willie T's - Norman Island
Pirate's Bight - Norman Island
Foxy's - Jost Van Dyke
Poor Man's Bar - Virgin Gorda

A nice thing about Sloppy Joes in Key West is that they have a webcam. Just pre-arrange a time and you can wave to all your friends and family stuck in cold weather.
