Teen and seasickness

I'm taking my 13 year old son on his first cruise in April on Monarch. I got my doctor to give me patches and my dr said they would be fine for my son as well. But just to be sure, I contacted his doctor who told me the patches should not be used for anyone under 18.

1. Do you know someone under 18 who has used the patches? Were the side effects worse for them?

2. If you don't use patches for your teens, what remedies do you use?

3. Should I wait to see if he even NEEDS something before giving anything to him?

Thanks!

the patches should be your last resort, only if your son suffers from severe motion sickness when he rides in the car or flies on an airplane. If his peditrican says no to the patch, i would go with that recommendation. If he suffers from mild motion sickness when flying or riding i would suggest over the counter product like Bonine or Dramamine. The "natural" method which works great for me is ginger- ginger candy, ginger cookies, gingerale(must be made from real ginger). The ships are very stable so unless he is prone to motion sickness chances are that he won't even need anything.

As Lisa said, I wouldn't use the patch for a thirteen year old. Scopolamine can cause blurry vision and drowsiness. Unless your son has problems with car sickness or other motion problems I wouldn't worry about it.

If he can handle carnival rides then you have nothing to worry about.

Use the ginger and/or buy some Bonine (Meclizine) and have that ready just in case.

Take care,
Mike
