Default Captains Party - do you attend?

Most cruises offer some event where the captain and senior officers are introduced and passengers may have the opportunity to meet them. Some sort of food and beverage may be involved.

Do you make it a point to attend these events - or do you stay away?

I usually skip them. If I am eating with an officer the night of the Captain's party, I will generally attend. I always try to attend the repeaters party because they bring out the good caviar.

Usually we attend. I think after 13 cruises, we've missed maybe 5 or 6 Captains Parties. On the Connie last Jan. we attended because the Captain (Pagonis) was just so personable. He's moving to the Silhouette when it arrives in Bayonne and we are planning to cruise her in Jan. so will make a point of being at the party, although it's somewhat demeaning watching people trying to drink as much cheap wine as possible in an hour

I usually go if there is nothing else going on and we're dressed and ready to go.

Yes we attend. Since we budget very little for drinks we like the idea of being able to have a couple of free drinks. Plus it is nice to watch some of the couples that will get up and dance as some are very good.

We allways attend the Captain.s party.

We also the repeater's party as well as reception with senior officers that they have on Royal and Celebrity for Diamond members on Royal or Elite on Celebrity.

There is usually a party for people who are celebrating their anniversary and we attend that as well.

Eating Caviar.. considered good or not, makes me want to vomit.

I wait for the Captain to come to my party... but he had better bring me caffeine-free diet coke to get in

We once set up a birthday dinner for my wife and for a cruising friend who shares her birthday. We invited the Captain and he graciously attended. As for caffeine free diet coke, it is always in supply.

haven't been to Captains party for my last three cruises. Too many things to do; have been traveling with large groups of people so we have our own party.

Default always attend

We have always attended these parties in 40 years of cruising.

Interesting answers. "To many things to do" or "better things to do".

A lot of times they are on formal night, just before dinner.
What are you doing, besides the casino, that I am missing?
Do you not go because you don't want to dress for formal night?

When we cruised Silversea we had several cocktail parties in the suite, both the Captain and Hotel Manager attended, though I didn't specifically invite them. I guess they come without special invitation if they like you

Fact is Marc, the vast majority of the cruise industry passengers do not cruise on the luxe lines, which means they are sailing on larger ships, with much less chance to meet and have a conversation with the Captain and Senior Officers.

While there are some free drinks and perhaps some appetizers, I think people also attend for the opportunity to socialize with other passengers they meet at these events.

The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I rarely attend the Captains Party anymore. We are usually getting dressed in our finest outfits, in order to look our best for dinner. I've found that most of the time the Captains Party, and the Repeat Offenders Party are nothing more than "infomercials" anyway, pushing the other ships in the line, and telling you about how wonderful the new ships are. We are already well informed anyway, as we check with our "CruiseMates" regularly to get all that information.

Like I mentioned; my past few cruises I have been with 15-20 people; trying to get them all to attend is tough; so we mostly have been sitting in Concierge lounge having our own party; or on Allure in Jan, we were just having too much fun on the Boardwalk, and I think we just forgot to get there.

On Holland America, the Captain's Party is held in the showroom and they offer complimentary champagne and the Captain introduces the staff (all on stage) so there is no mingling. Frankly, I will skip it the next time. Been there, done that.

We haven't attended a Captains cocktail party in years. Most of the time we also skip the past cruisers party.I agree with Sky-- basically a pitch about new ships coming out, etc,.etc. The Capt. says a few words, introduces the staff, they all leave, the C.D. takes over to tell you all abut this, that, etc.
It's not worth a free drink to me to fight the crowds. With all the others attending the party, it's nice to find that perfect place to sit and relax. It's worth the cost of a glass of wine or a drink to me avoid the crowds.
