Default Who Do You Think Confiscates the Most Booze?

The last couple of years the cruise lines have almost had a policy of confiscating liquor in passenges carry ons AND checked bags.

If you had to hazzard a guess.... which cruise line or ship do you think would be confiscating the most liquor?

Makes one wonder if there is any record of what all each cruiseline does remove from passengers. My first guess would be Carnival, but could easily be any one of the major cruiselines....

Kuki, do you have any data on this subject, would certainly be interesting..

Then, another ?, is there more taken at embarkment port of any of the actually ports that ships visit, like St. Thomas?

Having worked for all the major cruise lines, I don't have to guess.
I know the answer.

#1 - by a huge margin - is NCL
#2 is RCCL
#3 is Carnival

Bruce... Rats! I was hoping you'd chime in, but not until after a bit. I was betting the vast majority were going to say Carnival. ROFL

I would have said RCL because they're the only line that doesn't allow you to buy a bottle onboard.

Even though Bruce said it first, I agree that I'd think of NCL first. Not because of personal experience, but just from reading about people being called to the "naughty room" on the NCL boards.

IMO, it generally depends on how much liquor you bring on board. We only bring what's left of a pint (after having a couple at the hotel the night before) and it's in our checked luggage. We've never had it confiscated (even on NCL). I wouldn't try to bring a liter or a case of beer .

We "gift" ourselves with a bottle from the ship's "cellar". Yes, it's more expensive than what we pay at home, but it's so much easier!

Before I got to the answer, My mind went back to when I toured the NCL Majesty in Boston. While I waited for our friends, I watched as, bottle after bottle was pulled from carry-ons,and marked with names. It was amazing!

Funny, I remember hearing complaints, but don't remember anyone being embarrased as I would have been.....then the answer, and, I was correct!

Not surprised with top 3; I can easily guess bottome 3; Regent, Seabourn, and Silversea; they would love you to drink your own booze.

I would have picked the same top three the Bruce identified - probably would have flip flopped Carnival and Royal. And wouldn't disagree with Marc's comment above. Seems the less passengers pay for a cruise the more they try to save on other expenses.

Disney would be the least-IMHO.

I love the use of the term "naughty room" Fern. A term I'd used for many years, but became popular after some people on another board started using it after my review of the VoS a while back. I've seen it a lot in past year. Thanks--I always smile when I see it.

I wouldn't know about NCL as it has been years since I've sailed with them, but RCCL over CCL for sure.

Not sure if that is the order I would have put those 3 but they are the ones I would have named. Have to admit I never saw anyone have a bottle taken but did get to see someones flask being pourd out while checking in, it was for our cruise on Carnival Legend.

Of course Disney would be one of the least, as they have a written policy that you can bring a bottle onboard as long as it is in your carry on. Which makes sense. Especially if its a glass bottle. Less chance of breakage that way.

My order would be:

1. NCL
2. Carnival
3. Royal Caribbean

On Princess we had our liquor, bought in port, waived through with a "Don't worry about it."

I did see a large line of people on Epic waiting to pick up their luggage from the "naughty room".

Take care,
Mike

Marc.... with most of your posts referencing the luxury lines in some way (which is understandable considering your well known line of choice; Regent), I'm very curious, why you're never written and submitted a "reader review" of any of your cruises which be of much more assistance to the readers on the site?

Kuki, since my first couple of cruises, I have never writtten a review. I am not a very good writer and, since I am not a fan of travelogue type reviews (regurgitation of each day's activities), I think my reviews would be kind of boring and similar to cruisline hype or cruise rater (e.g., Berlitz or Stern) recitation. I also never seem to have time when I get home.

On my last cruise, I told myself that I would write a review. I figured I had twenty hours of flying in which to get it done. Of course, I never did find the time on the flights.

I will try to write up my last cruise. At least somethings on the ports, the ship, and activities of being on segment of world cruise.

Thanks for the push,

Marc
