Default Alaska cruise - NC vs RC?

Hi, everyone!
My husband and I are planning our second cruise, this time to Alaska in August. We're debating between Royal Carribean and Norwegian. Norwegian is cheaper and goes to one additional port, while Royal Carribean is more expensive and goes to Tracey Fjord.
What are your thoughts? Which might be 'better?" Pros and cons?

Thanks very much for your thoughts!

My personal choice would be NCL. The reasons are that NCL's Freestyle cruising is great for a port intensive cruise like this. You are not locked into a set dining time and are not as rushed after a long day on shore.

I also like the entertainment better on NCL.

The alternative dining venues on NCL are excellent but you would need to budget about $100 to take full advantage of them. I strongly suggest that you try one or two of them during your cruise. I personally love Cagney's and the Sushi restaurants.

I'm not sure if the cruise you want, with NCL, does Glacier Bay but if it does that would clinch the deal.

Have a great time on your Alaska cruise no matter which line you choose.

Take care,

I'd vote for the one that goes to Glacier Bay. I know Royal Caribbean doesn't. Not sure if the NCL itinerary does.

I have to agree with Mike M and Trackypup - no Glacier Bay - no Alaskan cruise for me.

Talking Alaska cruise

Actually, NCL and RCI are low on our list of ships for Alaska. We much prefer HAL or Princess.

As others say, for a first trip to Alaska, Glacier Bay is a MUST SEE.

Tracy Arm, while beautiful cruising, is NOT primarily a glacier experience. Think Yosemite with water in the bottom.

This question is so often asked that I made up a page with comparisons. Check out our trip report and pictures at Alaska Glaciers

You can read reviews of our trips to Alaska on HAL and Princess at Cruising with the Halls

Have a GREAT cruise!
