Default Do you pre or post cruise?

When you pre/post cruise, do you stay in your port city for a day or two, or three, to rent a car, and, enjoy all the city has to to offer, and extend your vacation, or, is just covenient, for flight schedules, or, weather related issues?

For me, I always fly into Lauderdale ahead of time, to shop, and dine with friends. I love that city. I have found I prefer to pre crusie than post cruise though.

--Caribbean sailings from the USA... no pre or post for us.
--Alaska Sailings... usually 1 day pre cruise accommodations due to flights to the "left coast"
--Europe... 1 - 2 day pre/post

Caribbean cruises we usually just go in one day prior and then head home as soon as the cruise is done.

In Europe we will always have a few days pre and/or post cruise. On our Asia/China cruise we went into Hong Kong three days early. We just booked an Asia cruise for 2012 and plan to spend at least three days in Hong Kong pre-cruise and three days in Singapore post-cruise.

We also will do a pre-cruise stay in New York.

It's fun to do pre and post cruise stays.

Take care,
Mike

On our last three cruises we have gone to Florida a couple of weeks before our cruise and have stayed a week or so after the cruise.

We usually do a few days pre-cruise if a far distance. For example, we are doing a TA in October and will arrive in Venice 3 days prior to departure. Cannot wait!

We are still working so it all comes down to vacation days. We have done 3-4 day pre-cruise in Rome, Hong Kong, Tahiti, and Athens. On the other hand, many other cruises we just arrive day before or day of sailing (our next cruise we arrive in Montreal just rhree hours before sailing). The only post-cruises we have done are Angkor Wat and Nice/Monte Carlo.

For us it depends on the port. If its a town we know or have wanted to explore then we will fly in a day or two before to sightsee.

Vancouver is an excellent place to tour. NOLA is a great town to spend extra days in. LA is another town you can spend several days having fun in. NY of course would be a place to spend extra time. Galveston can easily be done with a evening before and the morning of sailing to explore, boarding at 2 or 3pm.

We prefer to get home after a cruise.

One day early in the US, two day's elsewhere.

Come back home ASAP. Once we're done, we're done !

I love to pre cruise if at all possible. My next cruise on Allure of the Seas I could of actually done it, but the airfare was an extra $200 and then the cost of a hotel, just didn't seem the smart thing to do. As it is, I have a flight comming in at 11 AM the day of the cruise, so I should be fine.

we normally cruise in the winter to get away from the New England cold and snow, so just to be on the safe side, and to reduce the stress we will fly in the morning before, and have the day and evening to relax at our hotel

I'm a pre cruiser, after the cruise is over I'm ready to go home and see D/H & D/S and the kitties. Cruising with two other gals that are single and no kids I'm happy to go back to my life.

since our cruises have been from close to home we have only done a pre cruise in Tampa with our daughter and her family. Our next cruise is the first from a port not in state so we are going up the day before and staying a couple of days sfter.

Talking Pre and post cruise

For cruises to Alaska, being West Coasters we will usually just fly in the same day.

For cruises from Florida or the Northeast, a day early for safety. Sometimes we do a post tour such as Boston http://users.elite.net/thehalls/maasdam2.html

For more exotic ports we fly in at least a day early for safety, but often plan a pre stay or a post stay, simply because I figure if you pay the piper with that looooong plane flight you might as well get your money's worth!

After the Holy Land, we did 3 days post in Venice.
Holy Land Cruise 2007

Before the Black Sea we did 3 days in Rome.
"Black Sea Cruise 2009"

After the Black Sea we did 5 days post in Greece
Northern Greece Tour 2009

After Australia/Indonesia we did a post tour in Cambodia
Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Before the Baltic we did 2 days in Copenhagen
http://www.bully4.us/baltic.html

After the Transatlantic we did 3 days in London
http://www.bully4.us/crossing.html

And so on! As long as we are traveling, we might as well take advantage of the most famous places.

It is always disappointing to have a cruise come to an end, but when it does, at least for me, I just want to be home. Unfortunately, it takes almost another day to get home, then the shopping, pick dog up from kennel, laundry, etc....OY.

As we usually cruise in the winter and we are coming from the cold, we love to head to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami at least 1 day before cruising, just to get used to the temperature, and to reduce the stress of travelling on cruising day (heaven forbid there should be a snowstorm in Halifax and we can't get out!)
We have never stayed after a cruise, usually head right to the airport, but mostly this is for financial reasons. I need to get back to work!
