In decadent coffees, teas and pasties to die for, at all these little bistros popping up on the new ships? These little jewels of real estate, really have little jewels of such delicious treats, it can be heaven at sea for many!
On the Eclipse, I found the most scrumptious teas ever. When I came home and looked them up online, boy they were pricey!! The presentation of the pastries in the cases was just so tempting!
On HAL, I had a hot white chocolate, I still think about. Nothing has ever come close at home, to that delicious cupfull
People may want not pay extra to dine, but, will you indulge youself with a tasty treat, or a killer coffee?

I don't go for any coffee or tea with dairy or sugar; just wasted calories to me; however, on last cruise, I got hooked on ice coffee. It was fantastic. The only pastry that can entice me are bear claws. I had so many chocolate croissants living overseas that it is now easy for me to pass them by.

Hi Trip, I re-discovered Jordan Almonds (delicious !) at the candy shop on our last Carnival cruise. They, like the other candy, were priced per pound and didn't seem too expensive. I looked for them when I came home and as you said, they were pricey!
I won't buy them at home, but I will when we sail !

For a tea drinker like I am, I died and went to heaven. Tea Forte has the best combinations of flavors and the little pyramids float in your cup, with the little leaf at attention. One day soon, I might treat myself to a box!
Fern, you just brought back memories of my Mom, with Jordan almonds. She used to work in a store that made favors and sold personlized everything. She used to take some work home...making bridal shower favors, with Jordan almonds in netting tied with a bow,and initials.
Two for the bride, one for Mom, etc, etc, etc!

Donna I agree, I'm on holiday..YIPPEE!! no restrictions!!
On P&O they have a "Costa Coffee" franchise (like "Starbucks" but Italian blends), you pay for the coffee but the cakes & savouries are free.
One annoying thing I find though is people sitting there hogging the seats so others cannot use them for their purpose..ie BUYING A COFFEE! Grrr.
Just going to make a pot of rich Italian blend now & sit in the garden..Getting towards 80F here & a beautiful day.

While on a cruise, to me, anything goes...Since I am a coffee drinker, I will get a specialty coffee on a ship, not a problem.
ThatThat pretty much describes me. When I cruise I eat and drink and don't worry about over-endulging.

Guilty as charged - always have a speciality coffee.
One aspect of Azamara I really enjoyed was their elegant afternon teas - it always amused the waiters that I took at least two teabags per pot - Black Darjeeling; one per cup and one for the pot ; I can drink that without milk or sugar.
But I am lucky - don't know why I always lose weight on a cruise - maybe only 1 pound.
Yes - I do indulge - but I also gained about 25 pounds in the last five years since I became the editor here - so lately I have learned to only indulge while on the cruise.
I have been lucky enough to lose somewhere between 15-20 pounds in the last few months - mostly by avoiding bad food completely (no fried food, no sugar). I also figured out that my biggest vice was late night snacking.
So - on the cruise I do indulge, but I sample the rich food, I try not to eat a whole cheesecake - I mean "piece" of cheesecake.
And then when I get home I go back to my diet. On my last trip I gained about five pounds, but I took it off quickly.

I am the editor, but I also speculate, ask questions and play devil's advocate. I reserve the right to change my mind.
"Princess" always offers Chocolate Bear Claws both in the dining room at breakfast, and usually on the buffet. I can't stay away from 'em! They are absolutely delicious! (Apparently, lots of other folks think so too, as they are, more often than not, gone from the tray when it gets to me. No problem,,,I just ask for them, and they bring several for me. (Got to eat 'em,,,wouldn't want to waste food you know!)
Yes: I always have a "latte" each morning. I do the same thing at home. I go to the coffee shop each morning and get a large latte and then jaw with the locals.
Celebrity's Cova cafe is a bit too European for me. I want the "Jug O Latte". The Cova Cafe has the smaller sized coffees at a very premium price. Oh yeah, you get a piece of Cova chocolate with it. I don't think it's worth it. This may have changed in the last year or two and they now have the larger drinks.
Take care,
Mike

I gave up on the 6th March when on the Azura. I had smoked since I was 11 years old, around 50 a day Mmmm yes I could still breath ;-)
58 now, I have noticed I have more energy just need to get my weight back under control but constant cruising upset the plan
Just so those over there can understand us over here, Raffles Cigarettes around £7.00+ a pack of 20 thats US $1.5565 = £1.00 stirling
Already saved enough to book our next cruise down the east coast come the fall it will be a free trip just on my savings :o
Congratulations! Keep up the great work!!!!!!
I enjoy life on land ... buy a pastry or speciall coffee when i'm so inclined. But I rarely do at sea. I honestly don't find the quality to be that great. I've yet to sail a ship with Starbucks ......but if I did, I'd be paying for my premium coffee without thought. I'm not a fan of Seattle's Best, so I don't spend money there.
I like to get us much "free" stuff out of my cruise as possible. Where it is permitted (like on carnival) I will have an espresso or capucino after my meal. I'll eat a pastry with my morning coffee. I'll have dessert with lunch and dinner. But you will rarely find me forking out extra $$$ to spend money on the ship

I have lost 30 pounds since I joined CM . Instead of late night snacking I am on line posting on CM .
