Keep on Rocking!
You know that feeling of your still on the ship even after you’re off? What causes that and can you prevent it? Even spending the day on my friends boat had me rocking a little when I lay down. Not a big fan of the feeling. Any suggestions?

Sea legs ~ I kind of like them!
I've never tried it ... but I would imagine that the anti-nausea medicines you take to not get quesy on the ship ... might quell that rocking feeling. Maybe that would only work if the rocking made you feel nauseous. |
I'm fine on the ship it's only when I get off the ship, guess I should just stay on the ship! rofl

I remember once on a post cruise stay..were were fine, till we walked into Macys..There was some kind of noise, maybe their ac, that triggered something in our brain, and we started to walk like drunken sailors:)

I have heard that anit-sea sick meds will work to help it go away quicker. I am prone to it but it is not too bad so I have not bothered to try anything.

I have never experienced the sea legs feeling.

You can have a similar effect if you like roller coasters (as I do) and ride one several times at an amusement park. I think it varies with each person as to how long it takes to get your "land legs" back. If you're not feeling queasy, try a light snack before bed. Maybe a glass of milk and a couple of cookies ( "Chips Ahoy" is kind of appropriate).:cool:

The problem is caused by your inner ear being conditioned to the movement of the ship or boat and sending invalid signals to the brain. It takes some time for the inner ear to re-adjust.
There is a condition known as "mal de debarquement" where this persists for years but it is VERY rare and is most common in middle aged women. You can use anti-motion sickness medication to help if the condition causes problems otherwise your body will reset itself in a few hours to a few days. Take care, Mike |
