Default Unpacking...quickly or leisurely?

So, you just dragged yourself home from your fabulous cruise, you are tired from a long day of travel, and you don't really want to unpack, and throw a wash in, but....

Do you do it immediately, or, do you wait a day or two, before you dive in?

For me, I usually do it the next day..unpack, start a wash, and get out the goodies I bought, and get the suitcases back up to the attic...waiting to be brought down the next time we cruise, only to reminice about the luggage tags from our last cruise.

Usually even though we drive to from cruises I wait until the next day to really unpack. I may do some right away but definitley don't start laundry until the next day.

That is exactly the routine that we follow.

When I saw this topic; I thought you were asking about unpacking once on board. For that, we are unpacked and clothes on hangars in around ten minutes.

As for when we get home, I leave to Arlene; it is usually done in a day or two.

Next cruise we have free laundry; we are planning on coming home with predominantly clean clothes.

1st load of laundry is in washing machine within 5 minutes of arriving home. Then I make a cup of coffee and sit down.

Depending on what time we arrive home, it is almost instant. One bag goes right into laundry room and the cleaning begins...I won't be until the next day when it is all done, but it does get started right away... It is just reality setting in after a wonderful week off.

Sometimes, depending on the time, like Donna, because all my dirty clothes, are in that green garbage bag, I take that out, and, start a wash...At least that gets going.....

Ha Ha! I recently had this conversation with a friend. We are of the mind that we do NOT want the holiday to end, and unpackign only admits to this fact. We can live with packed suitcases (genererally travel clothes and travel items) because we usually don't need what is packed inside. Our DH's, on the other hand, hate disorder, and can't stand seeing the packed suitcases or the mess sitting there.

DH starts in "put stuff away" mode as soon as the car is unpacked. Me, I just want to sit there and relax.

It does depend on what time we get home. No matter what it's all washed and put away within 24 hours after arriving home.

Take care,
Mike

depending upon what time we get home, the goodies are unpacked right away regardless, and a load of wash might get thrown into the washer

I will say, it is a totally different routine when getting home, if we have been on a ship with self service laundry, there will be at least one less load to deal with when arriving home, gotta love that. As much as I don't care to have to do laundry while cruising, it also requires less packing. Now, I just wish all the major cruiselines would have them.

Talking Unpacking

I like Marc's attitude! I unpack my carryon and DW Renée takes care of all the rest. Stuff eventually disappears when she is ready and I don't worry about it.

I am more or less in charge of the stuff that basically stays packed, things that we use every cruise like the power strip, the folding laundry basket, hat and sunglasses, and our "emergency kit." Over the years, we have learned about so many things that we need that I have a bag especially for that, with everything from Nyquil and Tylenol to glasses repair kit and toothache gel.

Funny, but all three points are exactly what we do (both unpacking on board and unpacking back at home), except I don't have an Arlene. That would be ME!

I always take an additional day or 2 off work after a cruise. When we get home it is a routine of getting daughter back from Grandma and Grandpa's house (although starting next year she will be 3 and will start going along on the cruises), get the dogs back from the kennel, unload the car, order a pizza for dinner (a tradition for us now), go through the mail, watch the recorded shows we taped and eat pizza, and then the next day is unpack, wash clothes, shower daughter with all the presents and clothes we bought her on cruise, and start to organize pictures between loads of laundry. Usually tales us only 1 day to do the laundry and get everything put away.

I unpack right away and do the laundry as I am usually back at work the next day. It usually takes me three to four days to iron and put things away. This is due to working 12 hour shifts for four days until I get days off.

dump it all in the dirty clothes pile...and if I don't have to go right back to work...start on it the next day.

Depends on what time of day we get home. We took the red eye home from the last cruise and I couldn't believe how productive I was that day! I slept fairly well on the plane and was restless when we got home. I got a lot done -and I have a rule for myself that I don't get to download trip pix from my camera until the wash is at least started. I got to see pix that evening

It depends on what time we get home. If we're home around noon, we absolutely start the laundry!

If it's 6PM, NO WAY!

It will still be there tomorrow ! Of course we have an advantage in being retired... .

The only negative about being retired is that in most cases one is old
