Just curious. My favorite city is Florence, but I can't really say it is my favorite port because it takes forever to get there and you don't have much time. So, I would have to go with either Rome or Malta. Rome for the amazing sites (and for being Rome), Malta for the ease of getting around and the history/English speaking/architecture.
Venice and Shanghai are probably my two favorite. Now that I have spent a number of overnights in Venice, it might fall down the list because there are just a few sights I still want to see.
St Petersburg and Saigon are also fantastic ports.

My new favorite now, is Sicily..specifically Taormina. I have a great picture of the quaint main st, and, now it's my desktop. I see it every day now,and it makes me smile.

I have to say Hong Kong. Everything from beautiful restaurants and hotels to even better hole in the wall restaurants and street markets. Shopping that makes anything in the Caribbean look like small potatoes. It is also one of the easiest places to get around. The ferries, subway system and bus system and signage in both English and Chinese make it easy to find your way around.
I can't wait to go back.
Take care,
Mike

Have they moved Rome close to the ocean when I wasn't paying attention?
If Rome is your favourite port, then Denver is mine.
I would have to say Antigua. Absolutely beautiful island, very friendly people, and the nicest beaches we've ever seen. I could live there if the commute to work wasn't so far.

Okay, smarty pants... Civitavecchia then, but so far I have chosen to go to Rome when docked in Civitavecchia. Hope to expand out to Ostia Antica, Hadrian's Villa and Viterbo in the future.
But comparing Denver? Really not the same thing. One hour vs. half a day. (Although I would have to question your judgement if Denver is your favorite city, considering the parts of the world you have experience. I was in Denver this past weekend; it really didn't live up to expectations.)
Honolulu is my favorite port. I have been there three times and I just love it.
We do have plans to go back again.

! You could also visit Little Rock, another landbound city ! We have to fly to get anywhere !
Our favorite port so far is Juneau, Alaska. The weather was wonderful and we took an incredible whale watching excursion . There were so many whales that the Captain of the boat had to keep backing up in order to stay the "required" distance away.
We'll be sailing Europe, the Med and a TA later this year, so my favorite's could change in the blink of an eye !

Probably Venice! Loved that city! Also had a great time in Southampton as well. I also enjoyed my stay in Rome,,,,even though it isn't a port city,,,,I got there from a port!
I've always loved Vancouver for its wonderful blend of urban cultural spaces and beautiful forested parks. As far as convenience as a port of embarkation/disembarkation, I was amazed by the efficiency of Dover.
My favorite port? The one we're leaving from, because that means the cruise is starting! My least favorite port would be the one we go to on the last day of the cruise, because that means the cruise is over.
