Default How early do I dare??

At the end of the cruise, we arrive back in San Juan at 7:00 A.M. What is the earliest flight you have booked and had no problem making it in time. Really don't want to hang around the airport needlessly. Thanks

I would never schedule a flight before 12 noon...San Juan can be a zoo with cruise passengers on any given weekend.

Thank you for the info. That is what I usually do - but then I always hear these cruisers getting off so much earlier, and I am always kicking myself, wishing I had booked an earlier flight.

It always seemed the flights out of San Juan were either too early to catch, or later in the afternoon. I always found that there were no flights in the noon time frame...

Forewarned is forearmed. You can expect to see several cruise ships returning to port in San Juan all within an hour or so of each other. Because of that, expect to see l-o-o-o-ong lines at the airport. I agree with fun2cruiz. Don't try to schedule your flight before noon. If you're lucky enough to have a short line at your airline's counter, go ahead and check in early, then go find a seat, have a snack and read a book. Make it as stress free as possible.

I second what Donna said! Most flights out of San Juan are early in the morning or start at 5 or 6 in the afternoon. The bad part is the airport has limited places to eat/shop. I had to kill 5 hours and it was a long 5 hours!! When in doubt, waiting is better than missing your flight. Good luck!

Question Early flights

Well, the key words here are "had no problem"! In fact there have been times in San Juan and many other disembarkation ports were we had no problems and would up with a long wait at the airport. BUT there have also been ports where we HAD some sort of problem and were very glad that we had built in that extra time. The ship can be late getting to the port, customs can be late clearing the ship, lines can be long, taxis can be hard to get, or as once happened to us it can turn out the country just won the soccer championship and the streets are totally blocked with celebrations!

Most of the time the ship will offer a disembarkation tour which takes you around the city and drops you off at the airport early in the afternoon. This can be an excellent option.

Have a GREAT cruise!

I normally book my flight around 12:30pm... this time we're doing a 10:56am flight back but we're going to self debark and carry our own bags off. We'll have to get up early on debarkation day though.

We booked a post cruise city excursion so we wouldn't have to wait around the airport. We were taken off the ship first, and, toured around, then dropped off at the airport. Something to think about, if, you cannot get out as early as you would like.
