Default Nope, not gonna happen...

When the cruise bug starts getting you itchy to start planning your next cruise, is there a cruise line that doesn't even enter into the mix? Why is that?

For me, the luxe lines are just not on my radar, but, on the list of possibilities, Costa, never even gets on the list. I guess I just don't see it on tv, or in publications, to really know that much about it, except, it's quite European in feeling.

I have 2 well traveled friends that had amazing cruises with Costa, and I respect their opinions,so, why hasn't it made my to do list...I dunno.

How about you.....what line, and why? Bad reviews, word of mouth, or reputations of days gone by?

I am Elite Captain's Club member on Celebrity. Diamond Member on Royal and I love those cruise lines.
I have also sailed twice on Carnival, so I am at least a repeat cruiser with them.
I just don't have any desire or need to try any other cruise lines.

I'm so new to cruising that, there isn't a cruise line I wouldn't consider if the price is right. A couple of the high price cruises automatically get booted cause of price but if I found a sale...

I wonder about MSC - it seems in the same category as Costa, but I just don't know.

Cruise lines such as EZcruise never hits the radar.

There really isn't any major cruise line that isn't on the radar but after a quick look many of them are taken off the radar. Most of them are the lux lines, unless I'm splurging for a full suite on a mass market line. I have done price comparisons on Costa and MSC but they have yet to make the cut. Either there is a better price/value on other lines or the ships that Costa or MSC are using are older and smaller and I have not heard too many good things about those vessels.

No matter what: I will "Never say never" to any cruise line.

Take care,
Mike

I wouldn't say never to any cruise line, but for some reason, Princess just doesn't show up on my radar too often. There just doesn't seem to be anything special, setting it apart. Maybe once their new ships come out, I will consider it more seriously. Right now, it feels like their prices are higher, without the payoff of a beautiful ship like Celebrity.

Def not Costa - based on TV series.

MSC - UK reviews - very expensive once you are on board apparently.

Any ship with more than 2000 passengers.

P&O and Cunard - overfussy dress code and the heavy use of SOTON.

Having toured many cruiselines/ships I would have to say that the two cruiselines below will never be a consideration:

Disney.... they are off my radar for personal cruising.... I do not want to be around Mickey for that length of time 24 - 7.

Costa.... too european for my likes and not even a blip on the radar

For us, the high end lines. We prefer the more casual lines and not willing to spend a bunch when we are happier spending a lot less. Also, no Costa, MSC, and no Princess, based on one very bad cruise. (Not being fair to them, I know, but I couldn't wait for that cruise to end!)

Any cruiseline that does not allow smoking in the Cabin or on the balcony are off my radar. To me, it is a joy in the morning to sit on my balcony, coffee in hand and have a smoke. To me it is ridicules that one would have to leave his cabin after just waking up to find a area where he can smoke on the ship.

Other then that, none are off my radar if the price is right! Now my D/W might disagree and say the small ships are off her list as she gets sea sick alot even on the bigger mass market ships but I wouldn't say it myself.

Annie B - I'm not familiar with SOTON. What does that mean?

Truck - your options are shrinking. I hope you can continue to enjoy cruising.

SOTON - Southampton; I live in Scotland - it is a long haul and it is just as easy to join a ship in Europe.

Never liked the look of Fred Olsen, small old ships, cramped looking cabins ...but I think their ship "Balmoral" may be ok.
Lines like Costa & MSC seem "foreign'' to me, multi language announcements & entertainments. In Southampton we have the choice of several lines...P&O (7 ships) Cunard (3 ships) MSC, Princess, Celebrity, RCCL, Fred Olsen, Silverseas, Saga, + some I must have missed.

At this point in life I donít think I will ever go on Celebrity or Costa. The reason my sound silly to some but to me itís just too formal. I like to dress for dinner but the rest of the time Iím happy in my cut off type of shorts and tee shirt. Iím not big on the polo shirt and Bermuda short look or the more lady like skirts and such.
Donít get me wrong Iím not a slob Iím just very simple when it come to dress, Iím not in to the whole accessorizing and hair & makeup thing.

Celebrity have very few formal nights, one a week up to a max. of three I think & that only affects evenings Even then it's only the MDR now I think.

For me "Seaborn" and the other "Luxury Lines" like "SilverSeas" and Cunard don't get any consideration. Also, MSC is out, but I have considered, but never sailed yet, Costa. (The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) is Italian, so I've thought she might enjoy the Italian flavor of Costa.) Also, I'd never consider any of the River Cruises.

Do any Americans ever think about P&O from UK/Caribbean? Cunard is just one step up from P&O.

Nope. Never considered P&O. Still a bit "hoiti-toiti" for me.

It isn't, I would say one star below Celebrity in quality, I suppose SOME people think they are ''Lady Muck'' & they do have formal nights x 2 a week & some nights require a jacket for the MDR & some bars, but nobody seems to worry too much, inconsistent though like most.

HMMM,,,well maybe we should give it a shot then. I LOVE Celebrity, and have always had a GREAT time aboard their ships. I always thought that aboard P&O, and Canard it was mandatory at one time or another while aboard, to stand on the bow, spread your arms and proclaim that "I'm King Of The World!" Seriously, I'll take another look at P&O. THANKS!

We LOVE Celebrity & in some sort of poll over here P&O beat them to best "Luxury line," which was of course complete rubbish. Cunard are more posh though with stricter dress codes. The standing at the bow thing was another ship that left my home town 100 years ago next April... never to return.

P&O doesn't really advertise in the American market. I looked at them last summer for the Med. but I think everything left from Southampton and the DW desperately wanted to go to the Greek Isles. We didn't have time to cruise around the Iberian peninsula.

Snap! sailing from SOTON via the dreaded Bay of Biscay is a no-no for a lot of folks.

Yes I understand that...I was thinking board one in Barbados? Med cruises that start from Southampton do take time to get to the med but often call in Spain & Portugal on the way. I think the "new" Adonia does fly cruises round the Greek islands.

Airfare still a killer there. For me a flight to any of Florida ports is about $250 to $300, to Barbados $800. I might think about P&O if I was planning on combining some island time with my cruise but otherwise it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Quite agree, I only really meant if it was convenient, I forget I live within half an hour of probably the largest cruise port in Europe.
