Default Identify Luggage

Hi guys, with today's luggage that all looks alike, who here has come up with a way to identify your luggage, when returning from a cruise? My dad, had made himself, a red strap to fit around his luggage, which would make it easy to spot, now I'm using the strap when traveling. On the last cruise that I took, all I had to do, was look for the red strap and out the door. Once on an Alaska cruise, saw my luggage an hr after the ship had sailed, and knew my luggage was on board.
In a couple of weeks, am planning to fly, to visit my sister for Christmas and yes, will be using the red strap. Your thoughts?

That sounds good, but to be sure you have the right luggage check the tags.

Last year when we came home I saw a young man take my suitcase off the carousel. When I went up to him he said that his Aunt had said her luggage had "flowers" on it! Mine are green and brown and could be mistaken for "flowers", but when I saw him later the bags he had were covered in 1960's flowers !

We also use a strap around and a bag tie on the handle. You'll probably be okay with the red strap, but the best way to identify your luggage is to read the tags !

I once saw yellow crime scene tape, and those brighty colored bath scrubbies...many yarn tassels show up too.

Over the years, I have purchased some unsual luggage tags, and when I have replace my lugagge over the years, I try and stay away from predictable black.

I usually put pink ribbons on all the handles. My son spray paints his luggage with some design.

Of course you do need to check the tags, but I want a marker on my bags so I can spot them longrange.

I use straps to help identify my bags, and for security. I have never fully trusted the zippers on today’s luggage.

I also use the strap, a shocking pink one. Very easy to spot when looking for luggage.

The DW made a small leather braid on the handle of one of our bags, she has a neon green luggage tag. I have plastic "Flight Crew" luggage tag one of my clients gave me, and a bright royal blue hard suitcase - all a little easier to identify, but the tag is the thing.

I have been thinking about accumulating stickers like the old school suitcases - PARIS - ROME - LONDON.

On one return cruise we were having some closure issues, with some hard sided suitcases we had used. When the main suitcase came out, it had no strap, which we had bought precruise, to make sure it would not open. I went to the carrier's office, and asked about the belt. He got a box, filled with straps, and said, pick out another one. He said basically that the machinery just is not made to handle strappings, and, poof!!

It hasn't been mentioned yet so...

Something quick and cheap that we do is wrap the suitcase handles with colored electrical tape. We're looking for blue suitcases with red handles

I have some yellow duct tape (used to repair JD tractor seats) that would probably work well. Thanks for the idea!

No problem Snoozeman. Hey, crime scene tape might be a good idea too if you can get your hands on some ! I would think no one would touch that luggage

We bought optic orange and lime duct type tape and put big X's on our luggage. We had not trouble finding our bags. And once on the ship we tore off a small hunk of the tape and put it on the outside of our balcony rail so we could easily find our cabin when looking up from the dock. Also instead of a store bought lock for our luggage we use those zip ties and pack extras. If an inspector wants to check our bags it's easy to cut off for them and no locks get ruined.

We are certainly a bunch of creative Cruisemates! I know they carry animal print tape too..I might just go get myself a roll for my March cruise.

A few years ago I bought some wide red wired Christmas ribbon. I have tied a piece on each top handle. It makes it much easier to spot, but then I do check the tags. So far I have not seen anyother luggage with the same ribbon.

I have seen luggage with crime scene tape on them, great idea. As for my strap, so far I've had good luck with mine, still have it :-)
