Not a "PC" thing to say but I think you can get a fair idea generally of what someone is like judging from their appearance & behaviour. Mistakes will be made of course but 1st impressions often are true.
I was talking about this very subject to a TA recently, holidays in what they call "drop weeks" do attract those whose standards are somewhat less than we expect.
