Question Riddle me this?

Saw a post on John Heald's Facebook page that was from a prospective passenger who insisted on having a male server. He indicated that this was a "deal breaker".

Other than being a sexist pig can anybody come up with a reason why someone would make this request, cultural, religious, other?

Question Male server

Is it possible that the guy meant the ship had to have a "mail server" so he could read his email? For some people that would indeed be a deal breaker ...

Ultra religious jews (referred to as Black Hat) will never touch the hands of a woman and generally stay away from females other than their immediate family members as much as humanely possible .
I know that some of them do take cruises .

Religious views and practices are private business and don't need to be dissected here....

There are a lot of beliefs that "ultra religious" people of many faiths may follow or practice that may not sit well with other people - but it is not our role to analyze why they would do anything or whether or not any of us feel it is right or wrong.

Paul - I wasn't seeking to offend - feel free to dump the thread if you would like.

The FB offered no explanation, many posters just blasted the guy as a pig. I was hoping to find another explanation without judging the validity of the request.

Carnival does not do Glatt Kosher Cruises, so no chassids would be on Carnival.

In the "finer restaurants" in Europe, for some time, the most highly trained service staff have been male; as have been the chefs. That is becoming less the "norm", however that may be the person's reasoning.

Though if they were used to only Michelin starred dining and service, they likely wouldn't be sailing Carnival .

Or it could be a Kosher cruise (I don't know what the requirements are for servers, but I know there are plenty of Kosher charters).

I thought most cruise lines did do Kosher - maybe he is semi-orthodox, or something else entirely.

The brother of one of my son-in-laws is not Hassidic but he is a black hat and he cruises often on non kosher cruises .The cruiseline orders special food for him and whomever he is traveling with . The food is served to him by a waiter wearing gloves .
