Passenger kicked off...You better watch out, you better
Get your tush to the life boat drill
Cruiser kicked off ship for safety drill 'non-compliance' - USATODAY.com |
Good serves then right!

Now maybe now people's attitudes about the drill will change. I'm betting whoever this was not only missed the drill on purpose, but got lippy about it when confronted. Can't imagine HAL wouldn't try to 'rehabilitate' an apologetic, cooperative passenger. Looking on the bright side, they had a good photo-op of the ship sailing away...

This is just way too important to not go, glad to see HAL made a stand on this issue. I have always gone and always will, I take note of how to get where our station is and remember it always. I bet more cruisers will pay more attention now. Just too bad it took a disaster to re-think doing the muster drill.

I allways comply with the rules.

I wonder if this is the start of a zero tolerance to onboard standards being flouted, a ship is a potentially dangerous place after all.
|
I know someone who refused to attend a drill on an HAL ship .The officers gave the person 2 options and he did the drill .

Friend of mine who cruises a lot once pointed out that HAL has always taken their muster drills a lot more seriously than some of the other lines, even inside the Carnival family. Based on some quick GoogleFu, I'm guessing because of the Prinsendam incident.
I also know that a friend that sailed on Carnival out of Miami last week had his lifevest with him during his muster drill. I know when I sailed CCL Imagination last 2 years we didn't have to take them, don't know if that was company wide policy at the time that has changed or what, but I know when I sailed on Costa Atlantica in 2009 we had to have our vests with us. Made for some great pix I think. :) |

Nor of Mickey Mouse or Cinderella?? ;) |
i applaud HAL for taking a stand.

Our first cruise we wore lifejackets. Made for cute pictures if I do say so. But the last 2 cruises we did not.

I am assuming HAL is taking this stand for legal/insurance reasons.
The Concordia took a lot of heat for having passengers onboard who had not been through a life-boat drill. I think that any cruise line that can guarantee every passenger gets drilled before they sail can qualify for lower insurance and also have a better legal defense in court should anything go wrong. |
Paul, can you clear something up for me? Isn't it true, that, many onboard had the drill already? It was only the recently boarded, that would have had the drill within their first 24 hours?
