Hi Everyone
I'm new to cruising although wife and myself have been to Italy a couple times. Question is this we plan on a trip to Italy in Sept 2012 for 7 days and we so far plan to fly from Toronto to Rome, we would like to try Sicily for a week visit but also would like to try a cruise, we really don't want to have to make our way way upto the top of Italy to board a cruise and want to know what are our options for going to Sicily as well as closest boarding port for a cruise?

It would be hard to do all that in 7 days. You might look at Costa or MSC. They may have some short excursion type cruises where you could cruise back to Rome from Sicily. You might also look into ferries, many are overnight. Not quite the same as a cruise but it will get you on the water. Alternatively you can look for a 7 day round trip cruise that uses Rome as the home port.

I think Rome would be your closest, so maybe start with a cruise, then head down to Sicily.

My thoughts are, as they are there see Venice? cruises go from there.

I think I saw that there are some cruises which begin in Messina, Sicily. As others have said, a good travel agent can help you work all of this out.
