Default LEAST favorite place to go

I had a post asking for favorite places to cruise to..which got me wondering if there were any specific cruise destinations I should avoid. ??

I absolutely hate being bugged to death in Jamaica, they actually will follow you and don't accept a "no thank-you"...All in all, it is a lovely, beautiful island, but you can't truly appreciate it the way the locals behave. We did Dunns river and had left all our stuff in a locked bus, and at the end of the tour, the guide expected a tip and actually came back to the bus so we could give him $.....OY.

I will agree, while Jamacia is a beautiful and lush island, but after 3 strikes, I will not get off the ship, any longer. Watching drug deals, dirty restaurant, being approached to buy whatever, excursions for shopping to a seedy strip mall..nope, no more

I have had no problems in two trips to Jamaica but absolutely refuse to get off the ship in Grand Cayman. Too many cruise passengers without the proper infrastructure. Once to swim with rays was fine; afterwards, have not found a reason to go ashore in Grand Cayman.

For us it is Costa Maya, Mexico. There is a shopping mall and a pool but that is all. Went to the local town and the beach was not nice and the people there at the shops would try very hard to get you to go in but they really did not have any good souvenirs. There was a group of men that did the pole swing and just to watch they wanted at least $5..

Maybe if there was a beach at the port that could be used it might be okay.

I have probably two ports that I really did not care for. The port of San Juan did not appeal to us (visually) so we did not bother to get off there at all. The water looked like muck and there was only one building (an old prison I think) that looked of interest on land.

I agree with Marc regarding Grand Cayman. They do not have the infrastructure to support the enormous number of visitors flowing in to that island on a daily basis. Additionally, I found it to be quite a "tourist trap" and felt there was nothing of real interest there for me. I ended up on Little Cayman Island for a much more interesting time..

Just a personal opinion and we all have one I'm sure..

I've learned to never judge somewhere by the port. Some very beautiful cities and areas have ports that are just that......ports. With cargo containers, dredged water and low buildings. However once you leave that area you can be surprised. A couple of examples are: San Juan, Shanghai, St. Petersburg and Calica.

I imagine people would port at Miami, Long Beach or Fort Lauderdale and not be too impressed.

Take care,
Mike

Jamaica, San Juan, Grand Cayman , Haiti, and most Mexico ports...In fact my least favorite cruise's is the Eastern Carribean cruise...Although I loved the Martha Brae river tour....About the only thing I like on the Eastern cruise.

I have to agree with Mike, the view from most ports is industrial, but you have to explore. San Juan has beautiful pastel houses on cobblestone streets. There is an art deco area, and Forteleza St, has good shopping.

Button, just curious what you did, and saw in the Caribbean ports you've mentioned that you found nothing of merit on any of them? What itinerary have you enjoyed?

Of course that old saying applies here..That's why Heinz has 57...

I think if I ever go to nassau again, ill stick to the resorts or stay on the ship. I don't do well in crowds, and I do not like people touching me. Three times I was grabbed by vendors trying to get me to go in their store. One snuck up behhind me and put a necklace around my neck. I almost swung around and punched him. I felt very out of my element and nervous, we didn't stay on the island long because of that. However, people who went to atlantis seemed to love it

In my earlier post I mentioned I disliked the Eastern cruises..I ment to say I didnt enjoy the Western itinerary nor did I care for the Bahama's...I enjoyed
Alaska
Bermuda
ABC Islands
Barbados
St Lucia
Dominican Republic
Tortolla
Virgin Gorda
Antigua
and a very pleasent surprise was Key West.
I loved the Panama Canal but the humidity was extremely high....
I use to live in Hawaii (5 Years) and after getting to know all about those Islands...You can keep Oahu...Maui is pretty nice....
The main Island in Tahiti was somewhat dissapointing but Bora Bora was and still is beautiful...that Island is a true gem.

I wasn't a fan of Grand Turk. Have a feeling if I'm ever there again other than getting off the ship to send a post card or two (Niece and nephew love 'em) I'll just stay on the ship for most of the call.

I could certainly skip Ensenada again and have thus far avoided Nassau

Forgot about Limon....that is a hell hole.

Freeport would be my least favorite. Don't care for Jamaica or Nassau either.

I like San Juan. Also like the Western better than Eastern, but not enough ports for variety on western.

I'll be glad when Cuba opens...that will help both Eastern & Western cruises.

Limon is the only place we have ever felt unsafe. As for San Juan, that may be our new favorite departure port. We loved Old San Juan and we love being able to reach more of the southern islands from there.

Montego Bay & Nassau.......I wouldn't go back to either if you paid me.

(tbh...apart from Cuba - which is wonderful...I wouldn't go back to the Caribbean region at all, ever again...hated it, too commercialised, too touristy...YUCK)

I'm not a huge fan of Jamaica, but I have to say, both times we've been there we've had a fantastic time. I'm not a big fan of Athens, which I know is contrary to a few posters who love it. Absolutely adore Hawaii, including Oahu. I think we've been lucky, I can't think of anywhere I'd say absolutely not going back.
