New Chinese cruise ship hits bridge - loses funnel

Ancient Chinese secret - don't cruise on ships built in China?
New cruise ship crashes into bridge

The captain of a brand new luxury cruise ship crashed the $45 million vessel into a bridge over a river in China after failing to account for the high tide.

The Pearl No 7 line in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, eastern China, was also sitting higher in the water because it had no passengers or cargo when it smashed into the bridge on the Oujiang River.

The 160m-long and 30m-wide ship lost a funnel in the collision and was forced to return to the shipyard for repairs.

If you look very closely on the bottom of the ship it says in small lettering "made in China"

That is a definite "oops".

Take care,
Mike

When I saw this video, I swear I could hear the Captain, saying..where do I resign!

A very similar thing happened on the Royal Viking Sun (now Prinsendam) on her maiden voyage in 1988.
When passing under a bridge into Copenhagen, the mast was sheared off by a low bridge.
The mast crashed through the roof and ceiling of the Queens Grill Restaurant, almost killing the entire Kloster Family, who owned the cruise line.

Perhaps the better lesson is to never sail on a ship captained by this guy. I would think "Tides" is one of the early topics in captaining - even on a river!

Remember the old days when cheap things were "made in Japan" when we were kids and you could actually see they used old beer cans because the printing was visible on the other side of the metal that shown on the outside?

That's what this ship reminds of - China, the new "Made in Japan."

Japan in fact has gotten much better then years past as you have stated...As far as cars go, I always owned a Japanese car and they were always very reliable.

As far as China goes.. you can't escape the fact that sooner or later you will buy something that is made in china...

Also when buying seafood, be very careful that you dont buy any seafood from Asian waters... if you ever saw a video like I have watching them catch crabs off of the waters in Indonisa you would never eat crab again...Crab cakes are a big no no...Most crab cake packages state "Maryland style" That does not mean they are from Maryland...read the package carefully...just about all crab cakes have crab in them from Asia..

If you like shrimp I shop at a supermarket in PA that sells shrimp caught off the florida waters...
Never eat seafood raised in farms...they are loaded with antibiotics and are not very healthy..Lots of stores sell farm raised Salmon, those are garbage you have to get "wild caught"

I'm not sure how the location the the ship's manufacture caused the captain to hit a bridge. This thread has mostly devolved into China bashing and it is not very nice.
