Smile What do you think

I just wanted to run this buy some people who have a little more experence booksing cruises then I do.Last month we recieved an offer from the company that we booked are first cruise thru that they would put the deposit down for us if we wanted to book a cruise, and that it would be due by final payment. So we went ahead and booked a cruise for next April. We also had to pay this company a $28.00 booking fee.Now if the price of the cruise goes down are we intiltled to the lower price?Since the cruise was so far out there were alot of empty cabins so we just chose a specific cabin. It all seemed like a pretty straight up deal to me. What do you guys think?

it all depends upon the fine print of your agreement

Not so sure about this deal, not liking the booking fee....time will tell if it is a good deal, but it also sounds like you are stuck with this price. Like Lisa said, make sure to read everything, so there are no suprises....Keep us posted.

When you first booked with them, was there a booking fee? That's the fly in the ointment that is troubling to me.....give them a call asap, and see exactly how this booking works...

Hummmmm it's the booking fee that sends 'red alerts' to me too. Double check the fine print ASAP....

That deal does not sound good to me at all.

I just booked a cruise myself and it was a much smoother process.

Ok then, it's not just me, when I read the booking fee I thought this deal may not be a deal at all. I honestly don't think they will be saving anything when it comes down to it...

Some of the BIG internet travel sites do charge a booking fee. Many times it is waived, but they have always had that fee. You'd recognize the names as they are large popular sites. They are legit companies.

Ok, now that we have established some companies do charge...[I have to say I wouldn't pay that fee], but ok...stiill call and check out, exactly how your booking will work for you, as far as pricing.

I wouldn't normally book through them either, although I did once about 6-7 years ago. They charged a fee, but it was something I couldn't really get anywhere else at the time. (A very late booking..48 hours b4 sailing)

I bet they booked OP as ES early saver...they are famous for that so that you can not cancel without penalty, but it will be up to him to watch fares and submit the forms.

I wouldn't pay a fee if I could book a cruise without one. The cruises we go on involve (FOR US) a lot of money...I want to speak to a person if I can, face to face. That way if something goes wrong or if there is a problem I have a 'go to' person, rather than just an 800 number. As yet, we're just not comfortable with the anonymity of booking through an on line service.

It was a pretty straight forward deal they would front the deposit for us. Final payment is due by 12/25/12 and we chose are cabin. The booking fee didnt seem like that big of a deal to me.As far as booking a cruise on line personally I feel perfectly comfortable going that route.Maybe I am a little naive but to me it seems like a pretty easy process all you are doing is buying a ticket to go on a cruise,We buy are air line tickets on the internetalso.

Question Booking a cruise

Well, Dhill, a cruise is a bit different from an air flight.

For example you mentioned choosing your cabin. Did the Travel Agent discuss with you the possibility of booking a "guarantee" as opposed to a particular cabin. Did he explain the upgrade process on a guarantee reservation and the possible advantages?

Are you aware of the choice of anytime dining vs traditional on some lines? Did the agent go over that with you?

Did he talk to you about boarding and disembarkation times and arranging your air flights to correspond? (See the huge thread about that on the Princess board.)

And so on, and so on. Experienced cruisers know things like this and know what questions to ask, and may do well booking online when they know just what they want. But it is a little more complicated than an air ticket.

That is why, particularly for new cruisers, a face to face Travel Agent can be a big help to you.

But it is a little more complicated than an air ticket. As far as the cabin selection on are first cruise we went with the guarantee and really loved are cabin, So we went ahead and chose a cabin in the same location. Not a big deal to us to get an up grade.

That is why, particularly for new cruisers, a face to face Travel Agent can be a big help to you.
WE are booking our own air fare because we will be stopping at Las Vegas for a couple days first. Then arriving in New Orleans a few days early. And as far as the flight home we dont have to step off the ship right on to an airplane. Maybe we will hang around New orleans again for a while we have not deceided.WE do understand about the cabin guarantee its just that on are first cruise we went with the guarantee and really loved the location of are cabin so we wanted to chose a cabin in the same location this time. And as far as the up grades go we dont really care about getting up gradeded no big deal to us. And as far as dinning we prefer anytime dinng we dont like to be held to a scheldule. We have thought this thru.WE just got an offer from the booking company that we booked are first cruise thru that they would put up the deposit for us if we wanted to book a cruise and since we were planning on it any way we said sure why not.I guess the booking fee might of been the only draw but thats the way it goes sometimes. It does seem like a pretty straight forward process to book a cruise, Have a good day and take care
