Mattress toppers

Anyone taken one on a ship? What type do you suggest? I like the sound of the "egg box" type.

On most cruise lines you can just request one from your cabin steward. The "Egg crate" type is what they have.

I will have to say that the mattresses on most ships have greatly improved in the last few years. On NCL I always requested one because their beds were horrid. Especially on the Sky, Star and Dawn. Then again, the ships are newer now so it could be that I'm just sleeping on less worn mattresses.

Take care,
Mike

Egg crates

We always request egg crates on Princess when we book.

They are usually on the bed when we get to the stateroom. If not we mention it to the steward and they show up right away.

I took one on our last Panama Canal Cruise. We disembarked in Vancouver, so it was a pretty easy transportation. I took a feather one and put it in one of those bags you can suck the air out of with a vacuum.

Sometimes even with a ship supplied Egg Crate the beds are still agony. I have heard a lot are being replaced on Princess - thank God!

I asked my TA to find out, but P&O don't have them he was told, I cannot take another cruise having to take too many pain meds in order to sleep.
I also got swollen hands & feet this time any theories, no flying involved.

I've read that a lot of people complain of swollen hands, feet, etc. drinking a lot of the ships water.

Trip June 11th, 2012 01:53 PM

Many who have cruised with me know of my severe foot swelling issues. I think for me it's a combo of flying and all the salty foods. Oddly with all I had to dela with on the Epic, the one thing I didn't get this time was the selling..go figure! i have tried it all. special hosiery, ultrasounds, and the best option is a diuretic..[sometimes it helps.] It gets really tough sometimes.

Aren't we lucky the bedding is getting so much better onboard. We only asked for an egg crate once, on the Zuiderdam, We have not needed one again.

I did on my last cruise since it was my time to sleep on the convertible sleeper and I’m thankful I did. I purchased it from Target once we were in Fort Lauderdale and I carried it onto the ship with me. I couldn’t check it with my bags at port so I had it with me until we got to our room. It wasn’t a big deal to carry it because it had a handle on the plastic bag it came in. I left it behind on the ship but used the bag to put dirty clothes in. I paid maybe $15.00 and it was kind of like the egg crate ones with the humps closer together. The styles change from time to time.

The better the more the cost but I guess it depends on your needs. I got mine at Target paid around $15.00 for a twin. You must be looking at memory foam not just the run of the mill topper. Mine worked out well made the sleeper softer and it was cheap enough to just leave behind.

I like to sleep on concrete .On cruises I request a wooden board under the mattress .
