There are so many morons, so some are bound to be at sea.

Who thinks they should put the photo they take of you on the card?
I'd feel a bit safer. My last ship put in a full blown apple store. Someone could pickup my card while I'm in the hot tub, and buy a $2k laptop without needing ID.

Total: 90nights at sea visiting 15 countries
BOOKED: Princess Diamond May 25th for 28nights to Alaska
PM me if you need a cruisemate for any Panama Canal cruises in 2013
Celebrity preferred but not required
Date, ship, cost pp
We get warnings to have our wallets & pocketbooks in a secure location at all times while in European ports. Never warnings to secure our valuables while onboard. IMO this was an isolated case.

As far as charging a $2k computer @ the apple store, I am sure they have cameras and when confronted would be easy to determine it was the wrong pax charging the computer. Also, being an electronic store their cash registers may be capable of pulling up your card picture.

Experiences over the years enabled me to have all the answers, but not necessarily corresponding with your questions.
Do none of them have a photo of you on your ship card? I would have thought that would be standard. Easy enough to do these days.
The technology to put your photo on your room card has been around for decades.
For legal purposes, all the cruise lines must put photos on crew cards.
But to put them on passenger room cards would increase costs dramatically, and slow down the check-in process.
Add to that the fact that 20% of the passengers lose or mis-place their cards in any given day - further increasing costs to replace them.

I was under the impression our picture IS on our ship card. I've seen myself when checking off the ship and on. Or am I thinking only some ships do this?
I read the article after I posted, how did he steal the stuff? It didn't elaborate he used a ship card.

Reason: did spell check and added a question.
The photo is stored on the ship's network and coded to your card. (I think)

I know when they scan your card when getting off and on, your picture comes up on their screen... So, using someone else's card will stop someone from getting on the ship if that is not their card.
