Sounds like a pretty wonderful cruise to me! Both islands are French ports, and we have been to Guadaloupe on Easter Monday, which is also a holiday...we were lucky enough to find an island tour, to take us around this lush island. Since all the stores were closed, I only remember a small shopping district.
St Barts is the island celebrities love, and the prices reflect it. My friends ate lunch there, and paid $36.00 for 2 salads..be prepared. Fabulous shopping though.!
Trip, with her book & tea!

If memory serves me correct ( iffy sometimes anymore) we had rented a car in St. Barts and drove from beach to beach and they all were quite beautiful; one was even nudist! They also had a funky restaurant that served one of the best hotdogs I've ever eaten. Enjoy and Happy Anniversary!
It's been a long time but I recall Guadeloupe was a beautiful island. renting a car is always the best bet for seeing an island - do what you want all day long.
It's a French island - so dining is an option. Basse-Terre, the western wing, is home to the national park, where you find La Soufrière volcano. There are hiking trails and a Jacques Cousteau underwater reserve.
