I've been to the Mexican Riviera several times and one of the stops was Mazatlan. I hope they've gotten some of the problems that plagued Mexico straightened out. I know it was pretty bad for a while. Each time that I went to Mexico though I had a wonderful time. Hopefully this is a return to tourism for the country.

We missed Mazatlan due to weather when we did the Mexican Riviera. Maybe we'll take another swing at it.

Just looked up the State department's warnings. There have been no changes for Mexico since July. State recommends not straying from the historic core or the Zona Dorado. I try not to be fearful but I try not to be foolish too.

Mexico

Mazatlan is in Sinaloa state.

Mazatlan was my least favorite stop. PV and Cabo are great, Mazatlan not so much.

I've not been there - yet!

We had a wonderful 10-night Mexican Riviera cruise planned on Holland America and had to postpone it due to an emergency. Unfortunately, right after that, they stopped going there because of the problems going on in Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.

But I have a very good long-time friend who retired down there many years ago and he absolutely loves it! Basically, he says it's like any other place in the world; there are good parts and bad parts - you just avoid the bad parts and you don't have any problems. Same can be said about Washington, DC - if you stayed away from places because there was a couple of killings every year, you'd definitely stay away from DC because we have about one killing every day! So it's all how you keep it in perspective. Overall, the Mexican people are wonderful and it's a shame a few bad apples always ruin it for the majority.

Hopefully, now they'll make some modifications to their Mexican Riviera itineraries and we can do what we started to do several years ago.

Pete, I hope that you enjoy Mazatlan when you get to go. I love Mexico and would do a another Mexican Riviera cruise in a minute. Maybe your friend lives in a part of Mazatlan that I did not see. Since I was there only one day I sure did not see everything there was to see. I hope it's nicer than what I saw. I'm sure that it is. PV was my favorite but everybody is different. Anyway, enjoy when you get to go!

Mazatlan is a fishing port with almost no beaches to speak of, pretty sketchy away from the boat. Grab some fresh local seafood near the boat and jump back on.
