Default Do you register with your State Dept.?

I didn't know this but the State Dept. would like you to register when you travel abroad.
I was curious if anyone has done this? I have also been informed that if you have a secret government clearance you are supposed to register before leaving the country. Here is a link.......https://step.state.gov/step/

I have been traveling for many years and have never registered with the State Dept.
I have been in many countries and never had any problems.

I have never registered with State Department when I have traveled overseas. I do need to get briefings at work before I travel but never from State.

I have had registered with local Embassies when living overseas; however.

Nope, that is something I've never done, actually the first I've heard of doing this...Not sure I want to start that now.

Have never done this, but then I have never been outside the country on anything other than a cruise except for a couple short vacations in Mexico and Canada. If I were planning a visit to a country with a more dangerous political climate than most I might consider it, but otherwise I won't bother. And the chances of me going somewhere like that are less than nill.

I wonder who would ever have a "secret government clearance"? Sounds like spy stuff!

I did this on out 12 day cruise last September. These days it seems nowhere is immune to a spontaneous protest/riot/attack. I would rather have them know where I am should something happen and I show up at an embassy or need a replacement passport.
