Royal Caribbean Raises Gratuity Charges

On January 2, 2018, Royal Caribbean International is implementing a $1 increase to the daily gratuity. The new rate will be $14.50 per guest for cruise passengers in stateroom accommodations.

Suite guests will pay $17.50 per day, also a $1 increase.

Guests who book their cruise prior to January 2nd can pre-pay their gratuities at the current rate.

The daily gratuity is shared among dining and bar servers, stateroom attendants, and hotel services teams who work behind the scene.

Also the same for Celebrity which of course is owned by Royal. My understanding is that if you are already booked you can pre-pay right up until the time you cruise. However, our agent and I disagree on that and to confirm I have tried calling Celebrity but have no interest waiting on hold for 15 minutes. They must be really busy.

I'm OK with that. An extra 1$ per day won't break the bank. Besides from what I hear 2018 is going to be a year of rising prices.

Happy New, folks.

Yes, you can pre-pay the gratuities before 1/2/18 at the old rate. Your agent is wrong. In fact, they can go onto Cruisingpower, which is the booking site for both RCCL and Celebrity, to easily add these to your reservation at the current rate.

I know this because I did it yesterday for a client leaving on the Equinox in March. Once added, they will not go up.

We've been through this on pretty much all the cruise lines over the last few years and it's treated the same way with all of them.
