New to this board. Have questions.

We might be interested in a round trip out of New Orleans. We loved cruising on the ocean, but this would be convenient since we live near New Orleans. We like sedate, relaxing things, so this sounds like we might enjoy it more than the big cruises out of New Orleans.

Are the boats air conditioned? We wouldn't want to go in hot months if not.

Can the beds be shoved together to make at least a double? If not, I guess we're not interested after all.

What are the advantages of various times of year?

Which are your favorite ports and why?

We would want a verandah, but don't require a suite. What category should we look for?

We especially liked Princess. How would this compare?

Can any TA book this or do you have to go to special ones?

Thanks!

The cabins and interiors of the boats are air conditioned.
I don't remember for sure, but something tells me the beds could not be pushed together.
Just about all of the cabins have a door from an interior corridor and one to the outside deck. We were on the American Queen. There were chairs right outside the French doors. I only saw a couple of cabins with private verandas.
I don't think steamboatin' can easily compare with cruise lines. Even the American Queen, which was the largest of their boats, only held about 400 passengers. Things are definitely laid back and friendly. It's an experience all in itself.
I am sure most TA's can handle the booking for you.

Linda, all three boats have rooms with double beds but the categories vary. Your best bet would be to pick up a brochure at a TA or call the DQ office direct. 1-800-543-1949 The room layouts and categories are in that. Their website might have it also - deltaqueen.com.
The Delta Queen's rooms are very small (built in 1927) but are all outside. No verandas as such but with comfortable big rockers to watch the passing scene. Veranda rooms are available on both the others.
The lower Mississippi offers less scenery but some great ports to visit. We enjoyed Oak Alley and Laura Plantation, St. Francisville, and especially Natchez. If you get hooked as quickly as we did, you'll want to visit the upper Mississippi and the Ohio where you will see lovely scenery and truly awesome sunsets.
You can call DQ direct, ask for reservations and book it right with them - they're most helpful. If you feel more comfortable with a TA, most can book it but here's one who specializes in steamboat travel. Phyllis Dale at 1-866-678-7174 or phyllisdale@cfl.rr.com. She's pretty busy so you'd have to be patient.
Cheers
Ginger

I thought TA's could not be listed and with their phone numbers also.
