American Queen June 2004

My husband and I and another couple just booked the American Queen 3 day cruise. I have been on many cruises but never a Riverboat Cruise. What is the attire? Do you dress for dinner? Also what is the age group usually on the American Queen? Another question (probably one I will take flak for) do the room have TV's? Thanks for any and all info you can give me.

Angie, on the longer steamboat cruises there are two formal evenings, the welcome aboard champagne reception and the Captains farewell dinner. I'm not sure how they'll work the shorter trips. Their "formal" is jackets and ties for the men (and I've seen some men wear string ties) and resort casual dresses or dressy pants suits for the ladies. I change every evening simply because the jeans or shorts I prefer during the day aren't appropriate for the lovely dining room. Usually I take one pair of black slacks with some pretty blouses to serve that duty. Since these 3 and 4 day trips are a new focus for the AQ I think perhaps the average age of the passengers will be younger than on either the Delta Queen or the Mississippi Queen. Many of them are repeat passengers who tend to be older. No TV in the rooms and believe it or not, it wasn't missed. We've done several trips on the MQ and DQ and welcomed the respite from world news and savored the time spent on deck, relaxing and watching the passing scenery. Will look forward to hearing how you make out.

Thanks for the info. Now here's another question. Do people bring their own liquor aboard to keep in their stateroom and do you get ice everyday? On the large cruise ships of course there are refrigs in the room but a bucket of ice would be great. thanks for the info again it is appreciated

People bring their own liquor onboard to keep in their room. Liquor or not, the steward will refill the ice bucket each morning and evening when he does your room.
Be glad to answer any more questions as they arise.
