Default Day Tour from Xingang to Beijing (Is it even possible?)

Hi

Will be on the Diamond Princess calling in Beijing on a turnaround day, passengers disembarking and embarking, and there are no tours to Beijing or the Great Wall for those staying onboard for the next cruise.

Does anyone know if it is even possible to hire a private driver (English speaking) or tour guide to take me to Beijing for a tour and back to Xingang? I realize the port is about 3 hours away from Beijing.

Alternatively, perhaps there is something of interest closer to the port that I could visit?

Just wondering if anyone has done this or has any ideas or recommendations.

Many Thanks
JT

Hi jeana, time is too limited to have a Beijing tour from Xingang port in the same day. To do so, 70% of the possibility that you might be late for your cruise when returning back from Beijing.

Yes, it's about 3 hours away from Beijing. And there are always fogs on the way from Xingang port to Beijing. As long as the fog is heavy enough, the highway will be blocked until the road is clear again. There was even a time so far I know that the blockade lasted for almost 1 day!

If you really want to tour around, I recommond you to visit Tianjin which is also a nice city nearby Beijing. It is only 1 hour away from Xingang Port. This tour is more available.

I agree. There really is not enough time to get from Xingang to Beijing and really see anything. You would basically drive to Beijing and then turnaround. It is 2 to 3 hours from Xingang to Beijing. We had a private driver and car when we were there and he made it to Beijing in a little over two hours but he drove very fast and the roads and skies were clear.

I wish I could remember the name of a little restaurant we stopped at, in the port area of Xingang, when we returned from our tour. We treated our guide and driver to dinner and they chose the restaurant. It was a just a small place but the food was phenomenal and very inexpensive. We really enjoyed it and the guide and driver took quite a few leftovers with them.

Take care,
Mike
