I'm a wreck sailing to Bermuda next week with all the hurricanes in focus. Do the cruiselines cancel if hurricane becomes severe? I usually cruise in Feb-March and wonder how October on the Atlantic will be. Has anyone out there experienced sailing in inclement weather?
Hi Helene, me again. I've sailed through a typhoon in the Pacific in a non stabilized ship. I must admit to a cast iron stomach and I was only one of a few in the dining room. There were ropes strung up all over the ship so no one would fall. No one did. I wouldn't cancel. If there is a risk, the cruiseline will do it for you and you will get your money back. This year's Atlantic hurricanes are proving to be busts, probably because it was a cool summer in the northeast. That cools the ocean off and the storms can't feed on the ocean's heat. The later into the season we go, the cooler the water. I think you will be fine. Cruiselines sail to Bermuda every October and they haven't lost any passengers yet. Again, have a great cruise and smooth seas.
