I'm SURE this question must have come up before...but I can't find anything on it yet. Anyway, I'm looking for a hotel nearby the pier (we're sailing on Grandeur of the Seas) to stay at the night before our cruise begins. Can anybody suggest anything decent, it doesn't need to be super fancy or anything, just somewhere comfortable and clean and safe. Thanks a bunch!

On our last cruise departing from San Juan we stayed at the Wyndham in Old San Juan, right across fromt he pier. You can go to www.wyndham.com and get some current prices for a start. It was very nice, although some minor problems in the restaurant there, just not enough staff I think. We were able to find a special a few months before we cruised, so keep checking.
Best bet is the Wyndham... across from the piers... great property... not too expensive and surely convenient to the ship. And... convenient to Old San Juan.
Unfortunately, there aren't many hotels near the pier and none of them are great bargains. For a unique alternative to the Wyndham Old San Juan, you could try El Convento (<http://www.elconvento.com>). It's one of the Historic Hotels of America and is a former Carmelite convent. Prices are not usually much different than the Wyndham and its just a few blocks from the pier.
