Gambling is not the reason I cruise, but it's nice to have the option available during multiple days at sea. On my March 17 cruise from Ensenada to Hawaii (aboard the yet-to-be-delivered Celebrity Infinity), will the casino be closed because of recent legislation? Attached to the federal Labor, Health and Human Services appropriation bill, the legislation prohibits ships with gaming facilities from beginning or ending cruises in Hawaii.
The legislation, by the way, was sponsored by Hawaii Sen. Inouye, and is viewed as heavily favoring American Hawaii Cruises.
It is my understanding that the casino will stay open, and that casino closures only apply to ship embarking passengers in Hawaiian ports. Since you are embarking in Ensenada you shouldn't be affected. But I also hope someone corrects me if I am wrong.
The casino is closed in port, only. This legislation refers to ships which use Hawaii as a home port, not to vessels which cruise occasionally to the islands, or sail from one port and end the voyage in Hawaii
