Default alcohol allowed onto ship?

I've heard conflicting stories as to whether or not your allowed to bring
alcohol or beverages onto RCCL ships?

If you are, is there a limitation for how much you can bring per person.

In each port, RCI uses an x-ray scanner, but it's not to look for Alcohol.
If you buy in port and put in a tote bag you can probably bring aboard the ship and use in your cabin. Your steward will provide ice.

I,m confused, on another cruise.mate list someone says all alcohol is taken off you and not returned until after the cruise.

Can someone set me straight on this? We are on Vision of the Seas to alaska this August.
