WE BOOKED THE GOLDEN PRINCESS 9/25/01 15 DAYS BARCELONA TO FT. LAUDERDALE. HERE IS MY QUESTION:
PRINCESS HAVE OFFER $25.00/PP FOR TRANSFER FROM THE AIR PORT TO DOCK, BUT WE LIKE TO TAKE A TAXI TO THE DOCK. WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE? WILL THE TAXI TAKE CREDIT CARD SO WE DON'T HAVE TO BOTHER TO EXCHANGE THE SPAIN CURRENCY?
We paid 4000 pesetas from our hotel near La Rambla to the airport, 2000 from the dock to the hotel. That's about 6000, by my math, which maybe comes up to a total of about $35. (Don't trust my exchange rate calculations.)
A taxi will be a LOT cheaper. But then you have to tip the driver and so on and so on ...
I'd say definitely go with the taxi, even if the price is the same. The convenience is worth it.
Don't know about the credit card part, but there are ATMs in the Barcelona airport that spit out money in pesetas. You can also talk to your local bank and get what are called "tip packs" in advance of your trip. They are usually sold in increments of $20 with a small service fee.
I'm just sorry you're not spending some time in what my kids call "Parcelona" ahead of time. It's one of the most wonderful cities in the world.
We will also be on the 9-25 cruise, flying into Barcelona a day early. We've been to Barcelona and paid $15 US for a cab from the airport to our hotel on La Ramblas. Don't remember the exact fare but I believe it was less than that from hotel to the dock; so it's less costly and also more convenient taking a cab.
BTW, Barcelona is not our favorite city, will spend time in Switzerland prior to our cruise, arriving in BCN on the 24th as we're doing our own flights.
