Default Bar Harbor Tours

I'll be going out on the NCL Sea this week-end. In Bar Harbor, I want to go to Acadia National Park. How far is it from the dock and what is the easiest way to get there? I heard there are free shuttle buses. Where can I get them and are they worthwhile? Any info would be helpful. Also, exactly where does the tender boat dock?

I don't know the exact answer to your questions, but being from New England, I'de like to offer some advise. Since this is the USA, why not rent a car? Arcadia National Park is beautiful - one road - national park. Get a good map from AAA and see if a major car rental company can deliever a car to you at the port? Bar Harbor is not very big but is touristy in the Summer. As long as there are at least 2 of you, I can't see how it would cost anymore than a tour which shuttled you from place to place. Try it.
Bon Voyage

I can't say where the tenders dock exactly, as I have never taken a cruise ship to Bar Harbor, but I have camped several times on Mt Desert Island, next to Acadia National Park. Acadia is adjacent to Bar Harbor, so it is very easy to get to, depending on what you want to see and do in the park. I agree that renting a car would give you the most flexibility. Either way, definitely get out there and see Acadia! It is so beautiful, and there is plenty to do, especially if you like hiking.

A couple of years ago I was in Bar Harbor from a Clipper (teeny little ship) cruise, I think the entire ship took the excursion to Acadia National Park. The whole thing was a disaster, the busses broke down, they didn't have walky talkies to communicate to the ship, there was so much rain you couldn't see a thing. I think the rent-a-car solution is great. We will be going back this year on Royal Princess. We will be in Bar Harbor much earlier and are hoping for better weather.

I was on a cruise with the Regal Empress Last year and we anchored out and took tenders in. There's no piers for cruise ships to dock. A car is a good idea or you can take the a Bus/Trolley that costs a couple of dollars a real bargain when you figure the cruise ship charges $30-35
Go to the Bar Harbor web site or send for their brochure. The brochure has more information
