Our most recent cruise was on the Sovereign of the Seas out of Port Canaveral. Let me start by saying that RCCL has always been one of our favorite cruise lines; however, we have seen service in the dining room decrease and prices for drinks, photos and any extras increase. Although it was only a 4 day cruise, two of the four nights there was no show. The food was so-so. Drink charges seemed to be whatever the bartender felt like charging, etc.
We understand that some cruise lines are now charging tips directly to your account when you embark. I personally think this is a bad idea, as tipping should be for good service and should be up to the customer. If the service is not there, a displeased customer has no way of making a statement that will have any effect on the individual's involved. By the less than inspired waiters, room stewards, etc. that know they will get their tips no matter what, there is always going to be a lack of graciousness and concern on the part of the cruise line staff for the cruise passenger.
Our next cruise is on the Sovereign leaving June 21. Thanks for letting us know about the difference in price. Seems they marking up prices to get better tips. We'll be after the bar manager if we notice it happening. Thanks again.
