Default Seabourn Pride

My wife and I sailed on the Seabourn Pride, a 208 passenger "mega-yacht", this past December, on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise. It was our third cruise in 16 months, the previous ones being on the Norwegian Majesty (Boston to Bermuda) and the Renaissance 2 (Barcelona to Lisbon). The Seabourn cruise was fabulous, and worth every penny. The concerns voiced in the CruiseMates article (poor service, nickle-and-diming, etc.) do NOT apply to Seabourn. The dining experience was consistently first-rate---similar to the food, service, and ambiance of a Ritz-Carlton or Le Meridien dining room. "House" wines were complimentary at both lunch and dinner, and they were of a high quality. The smallest cabins are 277 square feet--- a suite on many lines---and feature a walk-in closet, a very large bathroom with upscale soaps and shampoos, a separate sitting area, a bottle of Veuve Cliquot on ice and your (pre-selected) favorite hard liquors (full liters) in the mini-bar refrigerator. All included in the price of the cruise.

It would be impossible to go back to a mass-market line like NCL; and even Renaissace, which we enjoyed very much, cannot compare. We have recently booked a second cruise on the Pride, for 11 nights. Unless Seabourn somehow loses its focus on quality, we'll be sailing with them for many years to come.

Hi, Jim ...

I wonder just how many people realize that going with the "top drawer" lines is only marginally more expensive than some of the others.

Consider the "includeds" such as shore excursions, the liquor and wines (if that's your thing) and wonderful food and service. No extras.

Dear Pamda:
You are absolutely right, especially if you do your homework. The Seabourn website always has various cruises at bargain rates, or with free airfare. In addition, certain times of year are usually inexpensive, e.g. the first two weeks of December, the weeks directly after New Years, etc. If you're a past guest, you get an additional 10% off the "best" fare.

The 11 night cruise we just booked on the Pride for mid-December cost us approximately $2850 per person (not including air), which averages out to $259.00 per person, per day. That price includes all wines and liquors, truly gourmet dining, outstanding service, a no-tipping policy, great destinations (St. Bart's, the French side of St. Martin, Virgin Gorda, etc.), and the most beautiful cabins I could ever imagine. In my opinion, that's a bargain.

Sincerely,
Jim
