Default debarkation times

I am sailing on RCL Grandeur on the August 18th cruise. When we return on the 25 it gives 8a.m. as docking time. I'm wanting to get off as soon as I can without an early flight as I am leaving the next day. We are wanting to try to fit in the Vatican and it's museum closes at 1 on Saturday. When can I expect to depark so that I can arrange my driver to pick my up? Thanks, Cheryl

Civitaviccia is a 2 hour drive from Rome. A ship must clear customs before anyone is allowed to disembark. Passengers are given priority numbered or colored tickets; Special Needs, Early Flights, then by deck location of your cabin. It is very hard to say how long before you will be allowed to disembark. In Genoa, the port terminal was so small, all of the luggage could not be off loaded at the same time. We ran up to 2 hrs. later than anticipated getting off the ship and onto the airport transportation. Why not plan an overnight in Rome, then fly home on the 26th. You can take a taxi to a hotel, check in and tour at your leisure and even attend Mass on Sunday morning, if you like.
Bon Voyage

They start throwing people off as early as possible. Got off the Galaxy Sat. at 6:50 and we were the 3rd group off.
