We are going on the Pride in April and looked at the reviews for the Spirit. These reviews were very disappointing!! Food and service were not good. Does anybody know anything about this? This will be our fourth Carnival cruise and there are two other families going with us. We have told them how wonderful the other cruises were and would hate for this to be the worst of all! Our last cruise was April 2001 on the Victory. We had a blast and everything was perfect-other than having too much rum punch on the Cool Runnings trip! HA!
I am in your situation. Only cruised Carnival once, took lst time cruisers along, & was somewhat disappointed, but overall still had a good time. I don't think our friends realized the service & food on that cruise were not up to what we were used to on RCCL or NCL. There are both good & bad reviews on a couple of different sights re: the Spirit. What we should try to keep in mind is the Pride will be new. The other Carnival ship we were on (Destiny) was also just a few months old. There was such a large amount of fanfare with her arrival - special fold out brochures; lots of t.v. coverage (she was then the largest ship afloat), etc., that I think we were a little surprised to find many waiters & cabin stewards who tried but were just below par. Some of the food tasted like they tried to turn Italian and French dishes into Indian dishes, plus they didn't offer lobster back then on Carnival. We were told all the BEST crew & entertainment would be on board as a result. This was not really the case ( except for maybe the cruise director). There are too many ships coming out & too many new crew members still wet behind the ears, so when a new ship comes out, sometimes it takes months to work out the kinks. Of course that has nothing to do w/the design & decor of the ship. But we are going to try Carnival again & try to go w/an open mind & hope for the best. I have heard Carnival's food is better now & I won't be expecting such an extra special experience just because the ship will be new. I, for one, hope as many Spirit cruisers as possible will offer reviews as soon as they return from sailing her. And can't wait to see some Pride passenger reviews asap in Jan. It's nice when they also mention other ships they have sailed or how many times they have sailed. So, all you Spirit cruisers, what did you think?
The food was excellent and we found it better that RCCL. The desserts and
pastries have particularly improved. We ate the best every night-it's all in the
ordering-listen to your waiter for recommendations. The alternative
supper club received excellent reviews at a $20.00 charge. The entertainment
and Gala Buffet were not really up to par, but the ship, cabins and service
exceeded expectations. This cruise was not a party ship and the passengers
were very experienced travelers. I don't know what some people want for their
fare. We had a truly wonderful cruise. I say good people always make
their own good time.
