Default FL Interstate exit numbers

For those of you driving to Florida for cruises, the Florida Dept. of Transportation is renumbering the exit numbers on their interstates so the exit numbers are the same as the nearest mile marker (like most states) rather than sequentially. The timetable and proposed numbers are on FDOT's website at http://www.dot.state.fl.us/trafficen...g/exitnumb.htm. My Rand McNally 2002 road atlas says they started last July, but this site says they are starting in February with the whole project finished by October. They will leave the old signs up for two years (at least that is what they say) in case you have an old map. If anyone living in the Sunshine State knows the status of this project, I am sure we would like to hear. (I was supposed to be relocated to Pensacola, but that was cancelled. I did some research so this is how I know and why I looked this stuff up).

Hi Tom,
They finally came to this very wise decision last year but so far I haven't seen anything done. I am hoping that they have been spending all this time making the new signs so that they will be able to quickly change them. I live right off exit 95 right now but that should change to exit 316. It is just so much eiser to number them according to the mm instead of adding them in and putting a through g letters after the exit # <G>

I'm in the north end of the state. They haven't done anything to I-95 from JAX to Daytona yet.

Thet haven't done anything on the stretch of I-95 from Jacksonville to Miami yet. With the financial difficulty that the state is currently in, due to the decrease in tourism, I don't think that you'll see it for awhile, unless a federal mandate makes it painful for the state to ignore it.

I clipped this from the site I mentioned. This is the schedule for re-numbering. From what I've read, they aren't making new signs, just stickers with the new number to slap over the old (with a smaller sign made for the old number)

February 2002 Construction begins on I-10 (from Jacksonville to Pensacola)
State Financial Identification No. 190453-1-52-02
Federal Aid Project No. 9999-181-I

March 2002 Construction begins on I-4
State Financial Identification No. 190453-1-52-01
Federal Aid Project No. 9999-180-I

April 2002 Construction begins on I-75 (from Georgia Line to Miami)
State Financial Identification No. 190453-1-52-03
Federal Aid Project No. 9999-182-I

May 2002 Construction begins on I-95 (from Georgia Line to Miami)
State Financial Identification No. 190453-1-52-04
Federal Aid Project No. 9999-183-I

June 2004 Removal of Old Exit Numbers on I-10

July 2004 Removal of Old Exit Numbers on I-4

September 2004 Removal of Old Exit Numbers on I-75

October 2004 Removal of Old Exit Numbers on I-95

Hope this helps.
