Default Why are we flying into Ft. Laud..not Miami?

We leave on the NCL Sun next Saturday & just got our documents a few days ago. Is it normal to fly people into Ft. Lauderdale when the ship leaves from Miami? They told us it's an hour drive...is this true? We have 2 kids & had no clue this may even be a possibility. We already have to change planes in Charlotte, now we have an hour drive when we get to Ft. Lauderdale. We arrive at 1pm & the ship leaves at 4pm. Will this give us enough time or are we going to be rushing all day?

Thanks for any input!

If you read the details of the Passenger Contract, you will probably find that it's acceptable to send you to an airport within a couple hours of the port. The good news is that the Fort Lauderdale airport is really not all the far from Miami.... about an hour drive. My guess is that you also have the transfers? If so, a NCL rep will meet you and assist you to the bus, etc... Make sure they get your luggage.

Did you get your air from Norwegian? If so, they ensure that you get to the ship on time. Cruiselines have held ship awaiting their air passengers (but only if you bought the air through them).

Have a fun trip!

Just deliberatly did FLL vs MIA for 12/13 cruise. Saved $150 pp on air. Ships transfers were $30 pp. Took 30-45 minutes from FLL including clearing port entrance security.

It's not a big deal to go to FLL rather than Miami. Many pax choose to do it even when booking independently because of better fare pricing and/or air availability. Usually is only about 35-40 minutes to transfer between the cities.

A cruise line rep will meet you either at the gate when you get off the plane or in baggage claim and will direct you to the bus. No problem.

We are doing the same thing. For us it was because the only direct flight to Miami was filled. Our travel agent explained that the cities of Fort Lauderdale and Miami are about an hour apart, but that airport and the port are actually much closer. So depending on traffic 30-45 minutes is consistent with what our travel agent told us. Check your cruise documents for the transfer coupon. We booked Carnival and they provided coupons with instructions for where to meet the transfer. I preferred the transfer to save time and aggravation of renting a car and finding my own way. If you don't have the transfer, it may not be too late if you want to do that.
