Default Water On Board

Is it always distilled water on board. We were going to bring our own water, but if it is already distilled will be one heavy item less to pack.
Travelling on NCL Sun. Is there an e-mail address for NCL I could confirm this with prior to leaving?

Dear Can't ...

The drinking water aboard ship is probably safer than what comes out of your own tap or, for that matter, what's put in designer bottles.

The distillation question is something your TA should check out for you.

Water on board most modern ships comes from a desalinazation plant on board. Essentially it is distilled/filtered water.
It usually is a bit tepid (warm ) coming out of the tap but it is quite pure. We fill up a bottle and stick it in the refrigerator if there is one or right in the ice bucket.Nice and cold in the morning and a lot less than the $3 or $4 per bottle charged on the ship.

We just got back from the Crnival Pride and the water tasted like the pipes. I'm assuming that it was because the ship is brand new. It was OK and certainly drinkable, but bottled water would have tasted better.

Every cruise ship I've been on tops off their potable water tanks before getting underway from the water system serving the port.

Most of the cruise ships sell bottled water on board. You can also buy it while you are in port (I do that). If you are picky about the water, you will be better off with the bottled kind.

My wife is an Applications Engineer for a large water treatment company and she assures me that the water is safe to drink and very clean, but I dislike the taste on some ships (I have been OK with it on others).
