Hi, we're leaving on Rhapsody of the Seas for a 7-day Western Caribbean cruise out of New Orleans on Saturday. This will be our 1st cruise I've spent hours here reading & found the site very helpful, thanks so much. I am wondering whether to bring my laptop along? Having the free time to do a good bit of writing would be part of the luxury of cruising as far as I'm concerned, but DH thinks it might be stolen and a friend who works as a chandler said there are problems with power surges. I would use the power supply only to charge the battery.
I know this is short notice & will understand if you can't respond in time. TIA
I take a laptop, and havent worried at all about theft. We also take a power surge extension with extra plugs. Most cabins have only one electrical outlet in the main cabin, and with chargers etc we need the extra outlets,
I also brought my laptop on my last cruise (March 2 - Ecstasy). Did not have any problems. My understanding is that laptops run off of the battery and are constantly re-charging which should take care of any power fluctuations.
Whenever we would leave the cabin (and the cabin steward would be due to clean the room), I would put my laptop away. My reasoning was that the steward tends to leave the door open while they are cleaning and I felt better about putting it away (even if it was just in the closet). I have a lock for it, but did not bother with it (all I could do was lock it to a chair).
Thanks everybody! DH has had two laptops stolen from his office (almost certainly by cleaning crew) so he's a little paranoid. But thanks to your helpful responses, he's now planning to get a jump on a project during the cruise. Maybe we should bring TWO laptops.
