Default What time to get to the ship?

In June I will be on a cruise to Alaska. My friend and I are staying at a hotel at the Vancouver airport the day before the ship leaves.
I know that it takes 30 minutes to get from the airport to the ship's port. We are trying to figure out what time we need to leave the airport to get to the ship. Any suggestions?

We would like to look around some before our cruise that day if there is time. Is this possible once we get to the ship before we actually board? Is there a place where luggage can be stored until you board?

This is our first cruise, so we have some questions!
Thanks for your help!

You didn't say what ship or line you will be with. I'd call the line direct to see how early they start boarding and be there a half hour before.

Generally there isn't a place to store your luggage, but if you check in early, you could always get back off and do your sightseeing. You'll be able to give your large bags to a porter but any carryon luggage would mean you'd have to check in and put it in the cabin yourself. And, while you're checking the line, find out what time they sail so you will know how much time you have to sightsee. Best to be back on board at least an hour before sailing.

Happy cruising!

Hi, Lh ...

Good question.

Any and all luggage can be checked with the cruiseline so long as you have your "official" tag on it with your cabin number. Just don't drop off anything with expensive jewelry or essential meds.

You can waste a lot of time standing on line to check in at the first possible moment.
( I did that ONCE.)

You might ask your hotel for a late check-out. Failing that, they do have secure luggage storage rooms and you could return to the hotel to collect your bags.

Why not try a GOOGLE.COM search on organized tours in Vancouver and see if they would collect you at your hotel and drop you at the pier?

If we can help more, please ask. And PLEASE enjoy your first cruise. Alaska is fabulous !!!

We will be on the cruise ship Ms Volendam by Holland America. Sorry I didn't mention that before. The cruise was booked through Inspiration Cruises.

Once you've boarded the ship, you can get off at any time using your ship's ID.and a photo ID, if that's what they require. Vancouver is gorgeous. It would be hard to tell you what to see since your time is limited, but I think I'd opt for Stanley Park.

Vancouver is an easy city to get around, depending on what you want in Vancouver.
Change your hotel from an Airport Hotel to a Downtown Hotel as soon as possible, the port is spitting distance from Downtown, it actually is part of downtown and is a beautiful place to visit a bit early, one of the most beautiful I have been too.

A day is not enough to see Vancouver a beautiful city. The best and most cost effective way to get from the Airport to the City is by Limo, they charge a flat rate and its per car not per person. They pick you up just out side of baggage claim and accross the street.
There is sooo much to see in Vancouver, Fairmont Downtown or Radisson Renissance (high end) For a great price the Rosedale on Robson is high end all suites with a great price attached...
Rosedale on Robson: 1-800-661-8870 ask for Wendy

Robson Street is an amazing shopping area, KGuess, Gap, Chanel, everything from beautiful Clothes, Shoes, Souveniers, Restaurants from every nationality Joe Fortes Roof Top For Lunch YUUUUMMMYYY great Martinin's too.
Stanley Park is a nice natural park in the middle of a very cosmo city....the same as alot of parks, definitely worth a look
Granville Island is a must if you are into anything trendy, great food, brew pub internationally known (Granville Island Brewery), wonderful shopping and Granville Island Pub or Restaurant for fine dining. From here you can take Water Taxi's all around False Creek and they drop off right near your Hotel if you stay at the Rosedale.

Your hotel will keep your bags in storage until you are ready to go to the Port, this doesn't cost you anything, except a tip for the bell man when you pick up. This is another good reason to stay down town.

Hi Kim!
first time cruiser here. You mentioned limo service from the airport in Vancouver to the dock. Is there a specific company you recommend to call and reserve in advance? Thanks.
