We booked the Summit and tour prices seem quite high. The itinerary includes: Key West (no problem here.), Cozumel, Puerto Limon CR, Colon, Cartagena, Aruba, and Grand Cayman. Any thoughts/recommendations on private tours in these ports? We want to keep safety as a top priority but have often found much better and less expensive tours on our own. Pelican Adventures offers some pretty attractive packages. Anybody "been there, done that?".
You will usually find touring on your own more convenient and less expensive. Advantage of a ship's tour is that they won't go off and leave you. Otherwise a taxi can give you a good overall look at the city. Taxi or public transportation will get you to specific destinations before the group from the ship and entry fee is usually cheaper than what you would pay through the ship. Again, you gotta get yourself back in time. We left a Mexican port early because of boating conditions. The ship's tours were rounded up and brought back but the others were on their own.
